Julian Love played for the undefeated Notre Dame until they were the first squad to find out just how volatile Clemson actually was. But Notre Dame’s defense was ranked 13th in the nation and was known for its passing game defense. Love is a player who enjoys helping in the run game and is a sure tackler. He plays like first-round talent but should be available in the second-round at the 49th slot. He is an excellent run stopper with great tackling skills. He spent eight seasons with the Packers, overlapping with current Browns general manager John Dorsey’s time in Green Bay. Burnett made 102 starts with Green Bay Chris Hubbard Color Rush Jersey , compiling 717 tackles and nine interceptions. He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent in 2018, but had a rough year. He suffered a groin injury early in the season, which limited him to just 11 games. Burnett finished the season with 30 tackles and just 364 defensive snaps, according to NFL.com https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Seth-Devalve-Jersey , as part of a safety rotation that saw Burnett line up frequently as a dime linebacker.Burnett had asked to be released from the Steelers in January, but the team did not comply until Monday of this week. He joins Eric Murray, who was acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs in a trade this week for defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, as players in the mix to fill the void at one safety position left by the trade of Jabrill Peppers and the release of Derrick Kindred. As for Gilbert Kevin Zeitler Jersey , he entered the league in 2014 as a sixth-round selection of the Rams while they were still in St. Louis. He has since bounced around from the Rams to the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders and Carolina Panthers. He has appeared in one NFL regular season game, in 2018 with the Panthers Joel Bitonio Color Rush Jersey , where he completed two of three passes for 40 yards. Gilbert spent the past few months as the starting quarterback for the Orlando Apollos of the defunct Alliance of American Football League. He 60.6 percent of his passes for 2,152 yards, 13 touchdowns and just three interceptions while leading the Apollos to a league-best 7-1 record. He joins fellow veteran Drew Stanton as backups to quarterback Baker Mayfield.

A large group of free agents, draft picks, and undrafted rookies will come to training camp to challenge for roster spots and a role on the team’s regular season 53-man roster. Over two weeks, Acme Packing Company will break down the roster position-by-position and reveal our compiled predictions for the 53-man roster.Kentrell Brice and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (with a dash of Josh Jones) made up the early season safety battery for the Packers in early 2018. Brice was an undrafted free agent overmatched in the modern NFL, especially when paired with Clinton-Dix, who will forever serve as a cautionary tale about taking members of the Alabama secondary. In their place, the Packers will now start a technically sound veteran still in his prime and a hard-hitting first round rookie. The new blood will almost certainly be more exciting, more aggressive, and more effective.Starters: Darnell Savage and Adrian AmosI mentioned Clinton-Dix as a cautionary tale because the Alabama secondary has the benefit of playing behind one of the fiercest college front sevens there is. Clinton-Dix’s style of playing a ball-hawking center field works well in that scenario, and may actually work wellin Chicago behind Khalil Mack and company. When you pluck a safety from the NFL’s Alabama defense equivalent, you do run a risk that he is generating production in a similar fashion, and may struggle outside of it. In this case, you can put your fears at ease. Far from a passive participant, Amos was as aggressive and sure as any player on the Bears defense. He can move from safety valve to slot to run support seamlessly and should provide excellent versatility and confidence for the rest of the secondary. The Bears are justifiably higher on strong safety Eddie Jackson, but don’t underestimate Amos’ role on that great defense. The Bears were as strong up the middle as any team last season Rashan Gary Jersey , but a good chunk of that strength now plays in Green Bay.It’s easy to be overly optimistic about any first round rookie, but it’s hard not to see Savage stepping in and excelling. The learning curve on safety is pretty low, and one of the reasons he went as high as he did is his NFL-ready technique combined with his ability. I’m wrong about rookies all the time, and I could be wrong here, but his college tape is encouraging, and the Kentrell Brice bar is a pretty low one to clear.Backups: Raven Greene, Josh Jones, Natrell Jamerson Greene acquitted himself well enough in limited play last season, and should one of the starters suffer an injury he won’t kill you for a few games. Greene’s a smart player, and should remain a calming presence and solid depth. Jones, for all of the trouble he’s caused and lack of production, still may offer something in the right scheme. He’s still debatably the best athlete on the team, and as more of a quasi-linebacker/downhill guy, he’s worth taking one more shot. But only one more.Jamerson is a willing and able special teamer, and a better emergency safety than you’ll find on most teams. If he can stay healthy for another year there may even still be a decent prospect waiting to be uncovered.<hr class="p-entry-hr" id="2n9RX7">Released: Tray Matthews, Mike TysonThough it may sound as if I’ve made up both of these players http://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Darnell-Savage-Jr.-Jersey , nothing could be further from the truth. Matthews is an athletic project with a big school pedigree and may stick as a practice squad guy. Tyson has been used out of his natural position for most of his NFL career, and a return to safety gives him a puncher’s chance, but no more than that. The Raiders released veteran receiver Jordy Nelson, Marcus Thompson of TheAthletic.com reports.Nelson was due a $3 million salary, up to $500,000 in a roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus this year. After the Raiders gave Nelson a $3.6 million bonus early for salary cap purposes, Jon Gruden declared that Nelson would return. His $3 million salary for 2019 was scheduled to become fully guaranteed if he was on roster Friday, Michael Gehlken of the reports. Nelson, 33, became the odd-receiver out after the Raiders upgraded the position with a trade for Antonio Brown and the signing of Tyrell Williams.Nelson signed a two-year, $14.2 million deal with the Raiders a year ago after the Packers cut him.He appeared in 15 games and made 63 catches for 739 yards and three touchdowns last season. Now, Nelson hits the free agent market again, and the Raiders have not ruled out re-signing him to a reduced salary, according to Gehlken.

After the game, head coach Frank Reich discussed the scene in the locker room during the break.“It was passionate by me, passionate by some players,” Reich said, via Kevin Bowen of 1070 The Fan. “It wasn’t screaming and yelling at each other. It was, ‘This has got to be better. That was embarrassing. That was pathetic what we did out there in the first half.'”Reich praised quarterback Andrew Luck for being clutch, which was certainly not the case when he threw an interception in the end zone in the first half. Giants safety Curtis Riley wasn’t near any Colts receivers, which is why Luck called it a “catastrophic” throw after the game.A loss on Sunday would have been described the same way, but the second half allowed the Colts’ hopes to live on. PHILADELPHIA 鈥?Adam Vinatieri started his career as a young kicker in awe of the stats of a Hall of Famer such as Morten Andersen. As a rookie in New England, the lofty numbers seemed as out of reach as a 70-yard field goal.“I remember playing against him early in the league going Ryan Grant Color Rush Jersey , so many points, no one’s even going to come close,” Vinatieri said.Come close?Vinatieri is on the brink of passing Andersen in career field goals and total points and putting the final bows on a career that has him destined for Canton, Ohio. The 45-year-old Vinatieri kicked field goals of 35, 31 and 28 yards on Sunday to match Andersen for most field goals in NFL history with 565.Vinatieri added an extra point to finish with 10 points in the game, putting him 33 shy of matching Andersen (2,544) for the most points scored in NFL history.“That’s the one,” Vinatieri said. “Nobody every pays attention to who has the most field goals. It’s who’s got the most points. They almost run hand-in-hand. It’d be fun if it happens.”The scoring mark could fall in a few weeks. But on a soggy Sunday in Philadelphia, Vinatieri at least snagged a share of Andersen’s field-goal record. The Colts couldn’t take advantage in a 20-16 loss to the Super Bowl champion Eagles, setting the stage for Vinatieri to set the field goal record next week at home against the Houston Texans.“It’s obviously special,” Vinatieri said https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Marshall-Faulk-Jersey , “but gosh dang it, when you do it on a close game and you lose, it just doesn’t feel quite the same. It’s a record that’s been a long time coming. I just appreciate the opportunities I have.”Andersen needed 709 attempts to set the record; Vinatieri just 670 in 23 seasons to tie.“We put him in situations to give us three and he delivers every time,” Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton said.Vinatieri was already the NFL’s postseason record holder for scoring (234) and field goals (56); and he hit two Super Bowl winners in the final minute. He’s won four Super Bowls and was the only unanimous selection on the Super Bowl 50 Golden Team.He made 263 field goals in 10 years with the New England Patriots and has 302 with the Colts.Few fans will forget the two kicks he made in the Snow Bowl, or “Tuck Rule” game, to help New England beat Oakland in a divisional-round playoff game following the 2001 season. Hey now, put the stones away. I know it’s not fun to talk about, but there’s a chance Josh Allen isn’t the long term answer at quarterback we’re hoping he is. We’ve talked ourselves into Billieving before and it hasn’t exactly worked out in recent memory. If for whatever reason Josh Allen doesn’t pan out, how long might he have before the plug is pulled? Time for a stroll down memory lane...<hr class="p-entry-hr" id="yGZ5W4">J.P. Losman Drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 2004 NFL Draft at number 22 of the first round, a friendly-fire injury in training camp robbed Losman of most of his rookie season. Appearing in four games (starting zero) Authentic Thomas Sweeney Jersey , Losman’s rookie season was mostly about being Drew Bledsoe’s backup. Named the starter in 2005, Losman lasted four games before being benched for Kelly Holcomb. Losman was given chances to fight for the job and earned it back in 2006, beating out Holcomb for the entire year. In 2007 the team took the next guy on our list, Trent Edwards. Injury opened the door for Edwards and while Losman found himself under center again, the job had been lost. Benched: Second season after four gamesTrent EdwardsA third round pick of the Bills in the 2007 NFL Draft, Edwards took the field in the third game of his rookie season after Losman was injured. An injury to Edwards returned Losman to the lineup for Week 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals but Edwards returned in Week 13 to take on Washington. Edwards was named the starter for 2008, missing two games due to injury. A hot start of 4-0 was followed up by a very disappointing 3⁄4 of a season. Edwards returned as the starter in 2009. He played out most of the year with that title but was benched after a Week 10 game against the Titans. Benched: Third season after seven gamesEJ ManuelTaken in the first round of the now-legendary quarterback draft class of 2013 (pick 16) Thomas Sweeney Jersey Boys , EJ Manuel found himself the starter his rookie year. Originally planning to roll with veteran Kevin Kolb the Bills were forced to put Manuel out earlier than expected when Kolb sustained a career-ending concussion in preseason. Manuel started ten games that year, losing six to injuries of his own. In his second year, Manuel was once again the starter with a new veteran presence in the locker room in Kyle Orton. In Week 4 against the Houston Texans, a poor showing convinced head coach Doug Marrone to pull the plug on the Manuel era. The following year brought a coaching change, and a hand-picked quarterback in Tyrod Taylor. Benched: Second season after four gamesJosh AllenEvery situation is different, and Sean McDermott shouldn’t be expected to behave like Dick Jauron or Doug Marrone (at least we hope not). That doesn’t mean Allen can’t be benched. A slow start out of the gate in 2019 could make McDermott desperate. If Allen struggles, how long might they let him continue to take the field?Josh Allen became the starter in Week 2 after Nathan Peterman flamed out Week 1. Allen started in eleven games Infant Thomas Sweeney Jersey , giving him the most first-year playing time out of anyone on this list. If Allen falters, recent Bills history leans toward a short leash in year two. Both J.P. Losman and EJ Manuel were pulled after four games in their sophomore season. While Trent Edwards was given a longer audition, it may have been extended courtesy of the battle he had with Losman. Historically the suggestion is that Allen will get at least a handful of games in 2019 to demonstrate improvement. If we look by total games played, we see high variability. J.P. Losman was pulled after starting just four games—all in his second season. Allen has already surpassed this total and will start the season in 2019, easily surpassing the Losman line. EJ Manuel was given 14 games to show what he was made of. If Allen is still the starter for Week 4, he’ll have made it further than Manuel. Edwards had the most leeway, with 30 games under his belt before being pulled. Allen will need to make it to year three or reach the AFC Championship this year to match the Edwards line. Reaching the Super Bowl from a Wild Card spot would be the only avenue to beat out Edwards. Will Allen be benched if he struggles? It’s possible Thomas Sweeney Jersey Draft , even if unlikely. Recent Bills history suggests coaches have little trouble moving on from struggling quarterbacks. It’s also noteworthy that all three prior quarterbacks dealt with injuries. Where logically it might seem quarterbacks would be given extra time to develop to make up for what was lost, it hasn’t played out that way in Buffalo. If Allen fails to impress it could wind up being Matt Barkley time. Terrance Mitchell on injured reserve with a broken right wrist.Mitchell got hurt in the second quarter of Sunday’s 45-42 loss at Oakland. He underwent surgery on Monday https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Ricardo-Louis-Jersey , when coach Hue Jackson said he didn’t think Mitchell’s injury was season-ending. The team can designate two players to return from injured reserve after six weeks.Mitchell broke his wrist while breaking up a pass intended for Jordy Nelson. Following the play, Mitchell grabbed his arm and immediately went to the sideline. To replace Mitchell, the Browns signed Jeremiah McKinnon from their practice squad. McKinnon is in his first NFL season out of Florida International. He was originally signed by Dallas in 2016.Mitchell, who signed with Cleveland as unrestricted free agent earlier this year, had 19 tackles and one interception in four starts.Jackson said either E.J. Gaines or T.J. Carrie will replace Mitchell as a starter. Today, the Cleveland Browns take on the Denver Broncos for Week 15! We will have game threads running for each quarter, so be sure to participate in the discussions. Chris Pokorny: “I like the Browns to continue Baker Mayfield’s hot stretch against Denver’s secondary, and being able to mitigate the Broncos’ dynamic pass rush by how well he has gotten the ball out over the past four weeks. I like the Browns to take advantage of the Broncos’ injuries at cornerback to win a tight prime-time game 23-20.” Browns 23, Broncos 20.Matt Wood: “Browns WIN! Mayfield goes off in primetime. He shreds the Broncos for over 300 and 3 TD’s. Lindsay has some big runs to keep Denver close but Baker is primetime baby!” Browns 34, Broncos 27.rufio: “All of Denver wants their coach fired. The Browns want respect and are extra motivated to play on national TV. Baker continues his pro-bowl caliber play (yeah I said it) and gets the ball out quickly so that the Bronco’s pass rush doesn’t have time to hit home. Chubb has a field day.On the other side of the ball, Case Keenum is fooled by Gregg Williams’ defense into throwing a pair of INTs, but Keenum does enough allow his receivers to make a few big plays on jump balls. Phillip Lindsey breaks loose for a pair of big runs despite being stuffed most of the day. In the end the Browns have more possessions and that propels them to the win.” Broncos 30, Denver 24.Ezweav: “Cleveland fans are as excited as they’ve been in a long time, thus the Curse has been licking it’s chops over this one all week. Against Denver David Njoku Jersey , Browns outplay the whole game, and then leading 23-16 with about 4 minutes left, Duke (who’s had a monster game to this point) is about to walk into the endzone to deliver the dagger. However Callaway misses a block on Chris Harris who then runs up and knocks the ball out just before he crosses the goal line. Broncos recover at the 2.Keenum then proceeds to drive them down the field all 98 yards, aided by incredibly good fortune on a 3rd and 17 play where lined up in the shotgun the snap hits a receiver in motion but inexplicably ricochets to Keenum, who delivers a strike for a 1st down. A few plays later he finds Courtland Sutton on a slant pattern for the TD, tying the game at 23 and sending to OT.Baker throws for 5 first downs on the opening sequence but all of them are called back by penalty, and we punt. Broncos then drive down the field and get in position to try a long FG. McManus hits it, and it appears to sail just outside the upright, but is nevertheless called good anyway, and we lose.” Broncos 23, Browns 20.Thomas Moore: “The Browns have only won in Denver once since 1972 and that came in the 1990 season. That, coincidentally, was also the last time the Browns had a quarterback like Baker Mayfield. This is a different Browns team from what we’ve all seen in the past, one that is ready to let the rest of the league know that their time is arriving quickly. Saturday night’s primetime game is when that happens.” Browns 21 Larry Ogunjobi Color Rush Jersey , Denver 10.Andrea Hangst: “Denver’s offense shouldn’t be much of a test against Cleveland’s defense. And while the Broncos have some formidable components on defense, it hasn’t been all-around dominant this season, providing ample opening for Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb to both have big days. This is a new Browns team, one that can certainly win on the road, in prime time.” Browns 20, Broncos 12.VS. He was named a semifinalist for the Collegiate Man of the Year award in 2018.The Packers’ draft now wraps up, but player acquisition is not over. Stay tuned for news about undrafted free agent signings as the seventh round of the draft wraps up shortly.

Every week Denico Autry Jersey , I will present a summary of some basic and advanced stats for the Colts performance relative to the league. Thanks to Pro Football Reference, NFL.com and the nflSCrapR project for being awesome sources of weekly data. That was . . . I mean it was . . . it was just . . .There are no words. Even when things went right they went wrong. There were really only 2 drives that had any promise, of which, the first was a turnover on downs at the 1 and the clock ran out on the other. The rest of the drives were just garbage. Sure there was a 45 yard drive that ended on another failed 4th & 1, but the other 8 drives totaled a whopping 89 yards of offense. Believe it or not, a 63% Drive Success Rate is not the worst number the Colts have had this season. In week 3, against the Eagles, the Colts put forth a 58% DSR effort that had only 14 first downs. In that contest, generous field position gifted by the defense led to 16 points.Against Jacksonville, however, the Colts weren’t that fortunate. While they managed more first downs, they also turned the ball over 3 times in Jacksonville territory with 0 points as a result.TEAM TOTALSPick a stat, any stat. Okay don’t tell me, let me guess. The stat you picked was. . . horrible. The Colts came into the game leading the league in third down conversions at 51% but could only manage 28% this week and that does not include going 0 for 3 on fourth. Only 22% of scrimmage plays resulted in first downs Nyheim Hines Color Rush Jersey , which is 28th for the week.An interception, fumble and 2 turnovers on downs were literal drive killers and figurative game killers. PASSINGThe only somewhat acceptable passing stat is the 63.5% completion rate. But that came at a cost of yards as they were short passes (3.3 air yards) and the receivers couldn’t muster many yards after the catch (4.2). There was only 1 explosive passing play . . . ONE!The only thing more pitiful than Andrew Luck’s 4.8 Yards per Attempt is his 3.3 Adjusted Net Yards per Attempt.RUSHINGLate game script limited the rush attempts for the Colts and thankfully so. As I watched the game, I thought the rushing game was bad.I was wrong.A 9.1% weighted rushing success rate isn’t just bad, it’s historically bad.Since 2009, the worst Colts rushing performance was a 2014 game against Dallas when the Colts were curb-stomped 42-7. In that game, the offense managed to put up 1 rushing yard. That’s not a typo. 1 yard for 0% wRSR.The next worse Colt rushing game after that? This one.Of the 4,992 regular season games played since 2009, a 9.1% wRSR is tied for the 41st worst performance of any team. This effort was so bad, that I was sure it was the worst by any team this year. But in week 4, the Steelers rushed 10 times for 19 yards earning a 9.0% wRSR.They scored 14 points. CONCLUSIONS & NEXT MATCH-UPI was, and still am, adamantly against Reich going for it on 4th and 4 against the Texans, but I have no problem with him going for it this week.In fact, I think he should have gone for the 4th & 1 where he punted. The numbers were on his side but the team (including the coach) just didn’t execute. And that’s true for the rest of the game. The offense just didn’t execute.Actually it was beyond that https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Johnny-Unitas-Jersey , they looked diseased and traveling to Houston to play one of the league’s best defenses may not be the best medicine. Houston isn’t as strong against the pass as Jacksonville but they are still very good holding QBs to a 9th lowest ANY/A (6.1). From a run perspective, they are ranked 4th in wRSR against, which is even better than the Jags (5th).Last time, the Colts managed to put up 34, absolutely gouging the Texans in the second half. Maybe Luck can find some of that magic again. TRAILING 5 WEEK TOTALSSEASON TOTALS (per game) HOUSTON 鈥?The Houston Texans are in a much different place now than the first time they faced the Indianapolis Colts this season, when they were 0-3 and desperate for a win.Ka’imi Fairbairn made a field goal as time expired in overtime to lead the Texans to a 37-34 victory in that game and they haven’t lost since, reeling off a franchise-record nine straight wins entering Sunday’s rematch. The Texans led 28-10 in the third quarter in that first meeting before Andrew Luck threw three second-half touchdowns to rally the Colts and set up the wild finish. The Colts failed to convert a fourth-and-4 with 24 seconds left in overtime to give Fairbairn a chance to win it.“Being up 28-10 … and then letting them come back and being down in overtime and pulling through the adversity, it kind of slingshot us to where we are now,” Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson said.聽“That was one game where we went through all types of phases and situations that put us through this nine-game win streak. It was the start of everything.”Defensive end J.J. Watt said that Sept. 30 game seems as if it was a long time ago and noted how difficult it has been for the Texans to win in Indy, where they’re just 3-14 all time.“We needed one to get started. That was the one to get us started on this streak,” Watt said. “Bit of an unorthodox way to get it, but we got it. So, here we are.”The Texans (9-3) are coming off a 29-13 win over the Cleveland Browns while the Colts (6-6) were shut out 6-0 by the Jaguars last week to end a five-game winning streak.“The Jacksonville game was tough,” Luck said. “They outplayed us. There’s not much else to say about it. As a defense against our offense Jacoby Brissett Jersey , they just flat outplayed us. … We took a good look at it and we’ll improve. I know we will.”TOUCHDOWN THOMASHouston rookie tight end Jordan Thomas has a knack for scoring with four touchdown catches despite having just 14 receptions this season. His four touchdown receptions are tied with Andre Johnson for second-most TD receptions by a rookie in franchise history. The 6-foot-6, 277-pound Thomas has been a favorite target of Watson’s in the red zone; all of his scores聽have come on catches of 13 yards or less.NEW BALANCECoach Frank Reich has stressed the need to find balance since he took the Colts’ job in February. When these teams met previously, Luck set single-game franchise records with 40 completions and 62 attempts and became the 11th player in league history to throw for 450 yards and four TDs. He wound up with 464 yards, second in franchise history, and four scores.Since then, an improved ground game helped lessen the burden on Luck’s arm 鈥?until last week, when he threw 52 passes, including 14 straight during one stretch, in the loss to Jacksonville. Don’t expect the Colts to be so one-dimensional in Houston.“You never want to have to drop back and pass it 52 times,” offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni said. “We always want to run it more. Just in that scenario, the way we were running it, we had some plays on our call sheet that we felt were going to be good to hit, some chunks in the pass game, and that’s the way we went.”THE BIG DHouston also will see a different defense. After allowing an average of 30 points over their first six games Reggie Wayne Color Rush Jersey , the Colts cut that number to 16.8 points over the past six. Indy is the only team to have forced at least one turnover in every game this season and is second in the league in tackles for loss (71.0). Rookie linebacker Darius Leonard leads the league in tackles (122) and is tied for fourth in forced fumbles (four).First-year defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus sees it as a good start.“We feel we have set the standard of how we want to play in terms of the style. Now we just need to execute on a consistent basis and just keep doing that week in and week out,” he said. “There are a lot of things that we have to improve on, but we have come a long way.”DEANDRE’S ARTOn a TV show this week, Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis said the way DeAndre Hopkins catches a football “is an art.” The Houston star agrees.“There’s more to it than just going out and catching a football,” he said. “There’s a lot of factors that go on before that. It’s for sure an art, and repetition makes perfect.”Hopkins routinely makes nearly impossible catches look run of the mill, and Watson has said he believes Hopkins will catch anything聽thrown his way. His latest nifty catch came last week against the Browns on a 24-yard reception near the sideline that came after T.J. Carrie grabbed his dreadlocks to try聽to slow him down.Hopkins knows that he makes it look easy, but wanted to make clear that it is not.“It’s harder than people think,” he said. “Especially like me, I usually have a defender on me or close to me, so catching the football isn’t easy for me like it is for some people who are wide open. It’s a challenge for me to play through that and still catch it.”100View Gallery Gallery:View from the sidelines: NFL cheerleaders 2018Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports | Raj Mehta

They'll continue on Thursday with someone on the other end of the spectrum. The Seattle Seahawks have some big decisions to make before the 2019 season opens. Not only does budding star Frank Clark need a new contract, but building blocks Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner will have extensions in mind. The Seahawks have a tad under $55M in cap space, so GM John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll should have the wiggle room to construct the roster as they see fit this offseason. Though Wagner and Wilson are the two most important pieces on the roster, for now, the focus remains on those approaching free agency in March. There are 14 players on Seattle’s roster who are on expiring deals (per Over the Cap), and those players are: Earl Thomas, K.J. Wright, Justin Coleman, Shamar Stephen, Sebastian Janikowski Germain Ifedi Color Rush Jersey , Dion Jordan, Neiko Thorpe, J.R. Sweezy, D.J. Fluker, Mike Davis, Frank Clark, Mychal Kendricks, Maurice Alexander and Brett Hundley. There’s a trio of players who, for this exercise, will be presumed as gone or not in the Seahawks’ plans: Earl Thomas, Sebastian Janikowski and Mychal Kendricks. Thomas is self-explanatory, Janikowski is heading into his age-41 season and coming off an average year, and Kendricks’ sentence being delayed all but ends his hopes of playing in 2019. A fourth player, Clark, will also be excluded from this exercise. Whether it’s the franchise tag or an extension, Clark is not going anywhere this offseason. That leaves us with 10 players, who will be split into three groups: Likely to be retained, unlikely to be retained, and anyone’s best guess. Let’s get into it:Likely to be retainedJustin Coleman A preseason trade for Coleman prior to the 2017 season bailed Seattle out as Jeremy Lane devolved from bad contract to liability. Since making the nickel spot his own, Coleman has looked like the Seahawks’ best corner at times, particularly early in the 2018 season. Coleman’s playing time went up-and-down over the final stretch of 2018, as Pete Carroll and Seattle experimented with big nickel looks Marshawn Lynch Color Rush Jersey , giving Delano Hill some of Coleman’s snaps. Nickel corners are starters in the modern NFL, and need to be valued as such. Carroll has identified his two cornerstones on the outside, and should make sure the trio is rounded out with Coleman. Approximate deal: In October, I wrote about an extension for Coleman in regards to the bar being set for a nickel corner by Bobby McCain’s new contract at $6.75M per year, with $13M guaranteed. Since then, the Dolphins deployed McCain as an outside corner, perhaps why he set such a high standard prior to the season. A deal in the $4.5M-$6M range for Coleman seem right. Neiko Thorpe The Seahawks’ special teams captain battled injuries all season, but made his biggest play of the season—while injured—in the Wild Card round. Carroll and Seattle give special teams as much respect as any franchise outside of the Patriots, and without much of a market for Thorpe, he should be retained. Approximate deal: After establishing himself as a core special teamer with the Seahawks, Thorpe signed a two-year, $3.5M deal during the 2017 offseason. Unlikely to ever establish himself on defense, Thorpe should earn close to that on a new deal. D.J. Fluker For a while, it seemed as though Fluker was going to price himself out of Seattle’s future, as he began the season playing great football. Then, injuries and strong play from Jordan Simmons in relief made it seem as though Fluker wouldn’t be in their plans for a completely different reason. By season’s end, it seemed as though Fluker’s stock had settledabout where it was prior to the season—aided by the way in which Carroll spoke of his fit within the culture. A favorite of Mike Solari’s, and a proper Seahawk, Fluker should be brought back.Approximate deal: Fluker played in 2018 on a one-year deal with a cap hit just over $1.3M. With his fit and value more clear, Fluker should see a bump in average per year, and contract length. Three years—taking him to age 30—with an APY in the $2.5M-$4M range would be a good deal for player and team. J.R. SweezyBrought back in training camp following his release from the Buccaneers, Sweezy not only made the team despite being injured throughout August Earl Thomas III Color Rush Jersey , but started 15 games. Sweezy has already received his big payday in the NFL, and is back in a place where he’s comfortable. I would imagine he’s eager to stay put. Approximate deal: Assuming both player and team are happy to run it back another season, Sweezy could return on a deal similar to the one he played under in 2018: $1.5M with incentives that could push it to $2M. Brett HundleySeattle dealt a sixth-round selection for the former Packers backup, after both Austin Davis and Alex McGough failed to impress in preseason. Hundley didn’t do anything to create a market for himself in free agency, and having dealt a pick for him, one would imagine the Seahawks would like to bring him back—at least to compete with Paxton Lynch and give themselves a couple options behind Russell Wilson. Approximate deal: Hundley was paid a modest $705,000 last season as Wilson’s backup. If Hundley returns in 2019, it will be at a cap charge below $1M, and it will be without guarantees. Unlikely to be retainedShamar StephenWhen covering Seattle’s UDFA class last spring, I expressed my expectation for Stephen to be beaten out by Poona Ford for a roster spot. Both ended up on the roster, with Tom Johnson the (eventual) odd man out. Stephen was serviceable and Carroll spoke highly of him, but the sentiment from last spring remains: Stephen was a stop-gap solution, and Ford is more than capable of filling that role now. It’s certainly possible Stephen returns to provide depth at defensive tackle, but the Seahawks should look elsewhere for that depth. Stephen was paid a hair over $2M last season—Seattle can find his contributions for cheaper in the draft or rookie free agency. Dion JordanThe Seahawks were counting on Jordan to repeat his pleasantly surprising 2017 in 2018, and he was unable to do so. Injuries once again reared their ugly head, with Jordan missing all of preseason and four regular season games. In 12 games, Jordan collected just 1.5 sacks. Like Stephen, it’s possible Jordan is brought back for depth—or as a camp body—but I would expect for his roster spot to go to a legitimate contributor. Mike DavisCredit where credit is due: Davis rose above a crowded backfield to be an asset to Seattle in 2018, filling the 3rd down role and as a reliever on early downs. However, with Rashaad Penny and Chris Carson firmly in the team’s plans, Davis would be returning to the Seahawks as the clear third choice—after his best season to date, would he accept that Chris Carson Color Rush Jersey , or would he look for an expanded role elsewhere? I would imagine the latter.Maurice AlexanderFollowing an injury riddled August, Alexander was brought back to Seattle in October after being released during final cuts. Alexander never really carved out a place on the roster, with fellow safety Shalom Luani arriving via trade following Alexander’s release. (Alexander dressed for nine games; Luani 12). Luani, an exclusive rights free agent, will likely be brought back at a lower cost. Alexander may be brought back as a camp body with no guarantees on his deal, but not before he’s allowed to test free agency. Anyone’s best guessK.J. WrightBobby Wagner has made it clear he wants his running mate to return to the Seahawks in 2019. Wright made it clear with his play from Week 16 onwards, he has something left in the tank. Whether that leads to Seattle’s longest tenured player being given a third contract remains to be seen. Wright is entering his age-30 season and coming off a deal which paid him $6.75M APY. While there is no clear successor on the roster, the Seahawks should continue to search for one this offseason, and have expressed to Shaquem Griffin an expanded role is on the horizon. That could mean Wright isn’t in the team’s plans at all, or that he could be, at the right price for a year or two. If Wright were to return, he would surely need to take a pay cut from his previous deal. A one- or two-year deal around $5M per year, with guarantees only in the first year, would be a good deal for Seattle. It would afford them more time to find Wright’s eventual replacement, and give Wright a chance to put a healthy season together as he pushes for a final sizable contract. The biggest priority for the Seahawks this offseason is finalizing an extension for Clark, and that will surely get wrapped up before free agency opens. After that, Seattle will have some challenging decisions to make, but more than enough cap space to make them.

Murray-USA TODAY SportsIt’s all about athleticism for the Green Bay Packers. Picking with the 12th overall selection Rashan Gary Jersey , the Packers have chosen defensive lineman Rashan Gary from Michigan.Gary is very much a project, as his production for the Wolverines did not live up to his exceptional athleticism. The position he will play in Green Bay will be interesting to see, as he played as a defensive end and interior pass rusher at Michigan. With a 6-foot-4, 277-pound build, he projects better there than as a true edge rusher. At that size, however, Gary posted a ridiculous Combine workout in Indianapolis. He recorded a 4.58-second 40-yard dash, a 38-inch vertical, and a 10-foot broad jump, all exceptional numbers. However, a shoulder injury was a medical concern for some teams coming into the draft and it may still require surgery this year.As mentioned earlier, Gary’s production hardly jumps off the stat sheet. In three years at Michigan, he recorded just 9.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss, numbers that have been equaled by some college edge rushers in a single season. This suggests that Gary will be worked in gradually, developing him behind the Packers’ current group of players at whatever position they decide to play him. This is a high-risk, high-reward pick for the Packers. Perhaps because the team has a second first-round pick, they felt that it was worth that risk at 12. And Matt LaFleur looks like just the guy to do it." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteAcme Packing Companya Green Bay Packers communityLog In or Sign UpLog InSign UpFanpostsFanshotsSectionsPackersOddsAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 322 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCDTShareTweetShareShareThe Packers’ recent struggles on play action are fixableChristopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY SportsOne of the weirdest things about the Green Bay Packers’ Mike McCarthy era — especially in recent years — is the team’s lack of success using play action. For most of the league, play action passing is an easy way to generate big plays, but for the Aaron Rodgers-led Packer offense, it’s been an exercise in futility. In 2018 the Packers were one of the few teams to average more yards on conventional passing plays than on play-action passing plays, ranking 30th on yards per play action pass and 31st on the difference between play action and regular passing. This isn’t just a one-year anomaly http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/jace-sternberger-jersey , as the team has been consistently bad in this area. They were also 31st in 2016, Rodgers’ most recent healthy season before 2018. It’s frankly kind of weird, and the reason why this is the case isn’t readily apparent. It’s an important question because Matt LaFleur loves play action, and his Titans ran it 6th-most in the league last season. They were also pretty effective in doing so, averaging a full two yards per play more on play action than on conventional passing plays. If the problem with Packer play action was simply Mike McCarthy’s play calling, there is enormous potential improvement on offense. If, however, this issue is based more in personnel, the Packers may crash and burn. When Play Action FailsAs is often the case, there is not one primary reason the Packers struggled in this area. Instead, several unrelated issues combined to ruin their run fakes and render their passing game average. Lack of DeceptionThe first thing you notice about the Packers if you watch any tape at all, is just how predictable they are. They tend to use one personnel group and one basic set of routes, but it’s amazing how many different ways they manage to be boring. When the Packers pass, they almost always do so out of shotgun. In the rare instances when they pass from under center, it’s almost always out of play action. This makes any Packer play from under center extremely easy to read. Since there are almost no conventional drop backs, and because having the Packers run on you is itself a win, opposing defenses simply default to pass defense. That may help Aaron Jones and company, but it’s murder on the passing game. Interior LineThe Packers’ line is quite good, especially when they’re pass blocking, but play action presents an interesting challenge, and does not play to their strengths. First http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/darnell-savage-jr.-jersey , their guards were a weakness in 2018, and they were only passable because the rest of the line was so good at compensating. When blocking for play action, you can’t fire off the ball like you can for a running play because you can’t end up downfield. As a result, the interior of the line sometimes got pushed around, and interior pressure will blow up play action quicker than anything. Rodgers had more throwaways on play action than any team should simply because he turned around into immediate pressure fairly regularly. They were much more effective in shotgun, where Rodgers could survey the field and adjust to pressure. Aaron’s Conservative PlayAaron Rodgers is cautious to a fault, not risking any throw that could turn into an interception. He also has had issues in making quick decisions over the last four seasons. On a play action pass, the quarterback often has his back turned to the play, delaying his ability to make reads, and compounding some of Rodgers issues. On this play:Rodgers ended up checking down to Randall Cobb for a short gain, however he likely had a big play to Aaron Jones on the back side if he wanted, and Davante Adams was also going to be open in space coming across the formation on the second level. Rodgers missed a lot of big throws this year, and play action was no exception. Fixing this issue is one of Matt LaFleur’s biggest challenges.Lack of CreativityA good play action call shouldn’t just surprise the defense. It should pressure the defense by creating situations where the offense has easy passes with running personnel. While a tight end like Marcedes Lewis may not be your prototypical pass catcher, the defenders put on the field to deal with his run blocking are even worse pass defenders, and play action should exploit that fact. Play action should also exploit the space created by linebackers who bite on the run fake. Too often, Packer plays were simply base plays that just happened to follow play action, making them easy to diagnose and ineffective.LaFleur excels on running plays with “opposite” personnel, and loves play action specifically to generate big plays. The Packers suffered from an enormous structural disadvantage in this area, and even if Aaron Rodgers has experience some decline, embracing and succeeding on play action can fix any number of their problems.

It’s much more realistic than a lot of the national ones as most insiders and analysts on a national level tend to sleep on the Colts. The whole point of this mock draft is to get the fan base involved and see who you guys would like to see the Colts draft in different situations, plus providing some trades and realistic scenarios. This draft will cover the Colts’ first four picks. Devin Singletary, RB, FAUDiscussion Do you see the Colts trading back in this scenario? No, but they will certainly consider it. The draft could very well shake out like this, being very defensively skewed. If it were to play out this way, the Colts could find themselves picking and the best Defensive Line prospect would be Jerry Tillery, who I have a second round grade on. However, the positive of having many teams go a specific route causes other talented players to slide, and that’s why I think they stay put. I understand the argument that could be made for TJ Hockenson, but I’m going to go with Byron Murphy. I like his length and athleticism, but what makes him my number 2 CB in the draft are his instincts and anticipation. The ability to understand routes and keep track of the QB as plays develop is something that truly cannot be taught. I think it would be a blessing that he slid this far, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were to happen. He didn’t wow anyone at the combine, and his 4.55 40-dash was pretty pedestrian compared to some of the other CB. However, during the game drills he was fantastic and what I saw mainly were great hands and very fluid hips. I think Murphy will be the 3rd corner picked in the draft around the late-teens to mid-twenties. Most teams in that range I think will take either DL or OL, but the Steelers will definitely take someone for their secondary. In this mock Deandre Baker fell to them, but that might not be the case come draft time. If Murphy makes it past Pitt, I think he’ll be there for the Colts. Who would you stay away from at this pick?Josh Jacobs, hands down. Anything you would want out of the backfield we already have in house right now. I’ve watched some of the limited tape he has, and the first thing that comes to mind is Sony Michel. They are similar in height, 5’10’’ to 5’11’’, and weight, 215 pounds to 216 pounds. They have playing styles that are alike, utilizing lateral quickness and speed to avoid defenders and the speed to beat them to the edge. Finally, their junior year stats are very similar in YPC (5.3 to 5.5) and YPR (12.4 to 10.7), it’s just that Sony Mithel had a larger workload.Jacobs declined to participate in the combine due to a groin injury, and maybe the fact that he is the de facto RB1 in this draft. I do think he is one of the better players left, and while BPA is an important strategy, like everything, it’s not perfect. My personal preference for drafting, at least in the first few rounds, is having a list of positions you are weak at and doing BPA for the pool of players in those positions. If Kyler Murray is available at #26 you don’t take him, even though he would be the best player https://www.coltsfanshop.com/hats , because you are set at that position, same thing goes for Josh Jacobs. Thoughts on the whole QB situations? So the whole “Murray will go number one” buzz picked up pretty hard the last couple of days or so, and I was starting to believe it until I listened to Rich Einstein’s show where he said that sources tell him the Cardinals are letting Rosen know that he is “their guy”. This is further re-iterated by the fact that low level scouts for the Cardinals, who should have no access to this type of information, seem to be spreading rumors like wild fire, which tends to signal that this is a smoke screen. I still think that the Cardinals take Murray. However, if they don’t, things are going to get interesting. Murray and Haskins are the only QBs I’d honestly give a 1st round grade to, but someone is going to reach for Lock. So to bring it all together, I think that Murray goes No. 1 overall, no matter who holds the pick. Then someone is going to trade up for Haskins in the top 5 and finally I think good ol’ Elway realizes that getting old QBs doesn’t tend to work (except if it’s Manning), so he gives the draft one last try and gets the Midwestern guy with the big arm after trading up.*Fun fact, in the last 3 drafts, every QB, except one, that was selected in the first round was chosen by a team that traded up to get him. Exception: Baker Mayfield (and he was the number one overall pick)Who do you think is a player that teams will reach for?I was going to go with Jaylen Ferguson here, just because I think he is this years Marcus Davenport (a developmental small school prospect), but to be brutally honest, I think Rashan Gary is a much bigger reach mainly due to the fact that he hasn’t really done much at the collegiate level and people have him as one of the best player in the draft. He was the number one player coming out of high school, but I think Michigan should have played him in the interior instead of putting him out wide and that hurt his production. Explosiveness clearly isn’t a problem as he had a 40-dash of 4.58, a Vert of 38 inches (!) and a Broad jump of 10’. He also measured in at 6’4’’ and 277 pounds, so he has the size to play the 3-tech. Most mocks have him going #4 to the Raiders, making a formidable interior with Maurice Hurst. I honestly think that the Jaguars makes a lot more sense just because they got some aging bodies on the interior and rumors are that they have already secured Nick Foles, so QB is no longer a worry. Again, thanks to Mr. Too Proud for the mock and I’ll continue this series for the Colts next 3 picks. Please comment what the picks from 27-33 should be and I’ll either pick one specific comment or mix and match a couple of them. During his brief retirement, Mudd wrote The View from the O-Line: Football According to NFL Offensive Linemen and an Uncommon Coach. Mudd’s book is filled with fascinating teaching points and even better anecdotes, including some from his time with the Seahawks. The best anecdote of all is how “The Mushroom Society” got started while he was with Seattle, during a conversation with then Jets offensive line coach Bill Muir at the Senior Bowl. Muir and Mudd were discussing how offensive linemen needed their own club, to try and match the glamour of other positions, when Mudd came up with this stroke of genius: “You grow mushrooms by keeping them in the dark, feeding them shit, and expecting them to produce.” Thus, The Mushroom Society was born.

Have them sit a whole season? When it comes to developing young quarterbacks in the NFL https://www.brownsfanshop.com , it all depends on who you talk to.Some teams think it’s best to throw rookie QBs into the fire to learn on the job. Others prefer to gradually work them into the offense. Some say it’s more beneficial to have them grab a cap and clipboard and take it all in from the sideline.“I think every position is the same,” Jets offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates said. “If someone can’t handle it mentally, then you don’t want to put them on the field, because naturally they’ll play slower and be thinking instead of reacting.”Sam Darnold clearly passed that test for New York, and the No. 3 overall pick in April was under center to start the season.“If a player shows the athletic ability, the talent and has the mental capacity to handle a gameplan and go into a game and be successful,” Bates said, “then he’s ready to play.”That doesn’t mean things have necessarily gone smoothly for the former USC star. Darnold’s 14 interceptions lead the league and have contributed to the Jets’ 3-6 start. So have his 55.0 percent completion rate and 68.3 quarterback rating, which also rank among the worst in the league.Still, some point to these early struggles as crucial building blocks for the future.“I’m going to continue to learn,” Darnold said Sunday after a 13-6 loss at Miami in which he threw four INTs. “There’s always lessons to be learned.”Of the 32 quarterbacks currently listed as starters for their teams, 12 were under center in Week 1 of their first season. On the flipside, some veteran superstar QBs waited a while before they got their chances.Aaron Rodgers was stuck behind Brett Favre in Green Bay before finally starting in his fourth season. Philip Rivers didn’t start with the Chargers until his third year, when Drew Brees went to New Orleans. Even Brees didn’t get his first NFL start until his second season.Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger and Alex Smith weren’t Day 1 starters, either.“In an ideal world Browns Customized Color Rush Jerseys , it gets to be like Drew, who had a chance to watch a little, or Tom Brady and Aaron,” said former quarterback Rich Gannon, the 2002 NFL MVP and now an analyst for CBS Sports and SiriusXM NFL Radio.Patrick Mahomes sat behind Smith in Kansas City until Week 17 as a rookie last year, and now is a leading MVP candidate as one of the NFL’s top gunslinger s with a league-leading 29 TD passes for the 8-1 Chiefs.“We knew that Patrick was very talented, but any time that an NFL team goes with a young quarterback, usually it’s a very challenging endeavor,” Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said. “Sometimes it takes time, several years, but as we’ve seen, Andy (Reid) had Patrick ready to go Week 1.”Gannon thinks the Chiefs provide the perfect blueprint.“Mahomes had a chance to watch a master of his domain for a year,” he said. “Alex Smith knew that system inside and out, has great huddle command and leadership skills. Maybe he doesn’t throw it like Mahomes does, but this is a guy who was willing to share and help him for that year, and we’re seeing the fruits of it now.“That’s the best situation you can have.”Again, that depends on who you ask.In the past three drafts Cleveland Browns T-Shirts , 11 quarterbacks were taken in the first round — including Darnold, Cleveland’s Baker Mayfield, Buffalo’s Josh Allen, Arizona’s Josh Rosen and Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson this year.Jackson is the only one to not yet start at least one game. Baltimore has Joe Flacco leading the huddle, but Jackson has still been used in the offense and is the Ravens‘ second-leading rusher. The Browns wanted to have Mayfield, the No. 1 overall pick this year, sit and learn behind Tyrod Taylor. But like most plans in Cleveland, it backfired.Taylor got hurt in Week 3 and Mayfield was thrust into the lineup, helping the Browns rally to beat the Jets in a nationally televised game and end a 19-game winless streak. Mayfield has shown poise and promise, but lacks playmakers and is dealing with a coaching change after Hue Jackson was fired. In Buffalo, the Bills weren’t anticipating Allen starting in the second week. They were taking what coach Sean McDermott called a “calculated” approach. But after AJ McCarron was traded before the season opener and Nathan Peterman bombed in Week 1, McDermott was left with no choice but to turn to Allen. The rookie has been dealing with a sprained right elbow , and is uncertain to play Sunday against the Jets.“When you draft a quarterback like we did, there’s a part of it where you have to say, ‘Hey, he’s going to play either A, B https://www.brownsfanshop.com/hats , or C — early, middle, or late or next year.'” McDermott said. “You have to be OK with all of that.”The initial plan in Arizona was to have Rosen learn behind Sam Bradford. All that changed when the veteran was ineffective and benched in favor of the No. 10 overall pick.Rosen took his lumps with some turnover-filled performances. Then, Mike McCoy was fired as the Cardinals‘ offensive coordinator and Bradford was later cut — leaving the job to Rosen.“His demeanor allows him to have success,” new offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich said. “Quarterbacking in this league is hard and when things go bad, this kid tends to be fine.”But, some say too many adverse situations could end up having long-term deleterious effects on a young player.“When you put them in before they’re ready, they also get hurt: Josh Allen, Josh Rosen,” Gannon said. “The speed of the game is way too fast for them. … Or they have a bad experience, like what wound up happening with (the Jets’) Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith, or going back to Ryan Leaf (with the Chargers). They play right away before they are physically or mentally ready or maturity-level ready. They get benched and booed and maybe run out of town, the coach gets fired, and then the next thing, they’re on their third or fourth team. They think he will be a savior and he’s not ready to play.“How is that being responsible from a coach and ownership standpoint? It’s doing a tremendous disservice.”Tampa Bay’s Jameis Winston and Tennessee’ Marcus Mariota started right away after being the top two picks in 2015, but the jury’s still out on both. For those who preach patience, 25 of the 32 current QBs started a game at some point in their rookie season. And Cleveland Browns Hoodie , several held on to the job from there.Quarterbacks such as the Rams’ Jared Goff (No. 1 in 2016) and the Bears’ Mitchell Trubisky (No. 2 in 2017) started and struggled as rookies, but benefited from changes in coaching staffs and philosophies and took leaps in their second seasons. So, who’s right?Well, all of the above.“There’s certainly valuable experience when you stand and watch,” McDermott said. “But we all know there’s no substitute for the experience when you’re actually behind the wheel. There’s a lot of value to that.” Cleveland Browns:“Baker Mayfield hopes he’s dangerous enough to ‘put us back in the race’” (ABJ) - “Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield expects to continue to feel dangerous enough on game days to carry the Browns to an elusive winning streak.”“Selfless Freddie Kitchens cheated death, continues to live life to fullest” (C-T) - “Freddie Kitchens thought — hoped might be more accurate — he was dehydrated. It was June in Arizona, after all.”“Bengals’ Joe Mixon the latest versatile RB to test Browns defense” (Browns.com) - “Plenty has been made of the Browns’ endless string of games this season against elite quarterbacks.”“Browns at Bengals: Thursday Injury Report” (247 Sports) - “The team returned to practice Wednesday with some rare decent weather in northeast Ohio. Thanksgiving was spent preparing for the Bengals as well.”“Browns fall behind in turnover race, seek to go out on top” (WKNR) - “Stretch run: The Browns have led the NFL in takeaways since Week 1 – until now. With six games to go, the Bears have taken the takeaway lead on the Browns by two, 27 to 25.”“Jim and John Harbaugh, Lincoln Riley, Bruce Arians and others on the Browns’ head coach radar or that should be” (Plain Dealer) - “The Browns are compiling their list of head coaching candidates, and by the end of the season they’ll be ready...”NFL:“Injury roundup: Marvin Jones might be back Week 13” (NFL.com) - “Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones, out last week and today with a bone bruise in his knee, has a chance to return and play against the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 2...”“Lions’ Ezekiel Ansah sets Thanksgiving Day sack record” (ESPN) - “By sacking Chicago quarterback Chase Daniel in the third quarter of Thursday’s 23-16 loss to the Bears, Ansah set an NFL record for career Thanksgiving Day sacks with 8陆.”

and SB Nation show some trends that should come as little surprise to anyone who has followed the Green Bay Packers this year. The Packers beat the Atlanta Falcons at Lambeau Field on Sunday Jake Ryan Jersey , winning 34-20 in a game that wasn’t nearly that close. That contest was the team’s first since firing head coach Mike McCarthy and installing Joe Philbin as the interim head coach. That move was the single biggest catalyst for long-term optimism all season, according to our FanPulse confidence index; the win over Atlanta, however, saw the numbers increase only modestly.Whereas last week saw a 23 percent bump in respondents who said they were confident in the direction of the Packers as a whole — increasing from 17 percent to 40 percent after the firing — this week’s increase is much more modest. It’s just a five percent bump this week, as the number now sits at 45% overall. Here’s the graph of the results throughout the season:Meanwhile, the Packers were an option in a question that went out to readers of all of SB Nation’s NFL blogs this week, who were asked which team is the most disappointing franchise in the league this season. While Green Bay did get about a quarter of the votes, they still lagged well behind the leader: the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags got a whopping 49% of the vote to the Packers’ 24%, likely driven in large part by the fact that Jacksonville made it to the AFC Championship Game a year ago. The Packers missed the playoffs in 2017 Lance Kendricks Color Rush Jersey , thanks in large part to Aaron Rodgers’ broken collarbone sidelining him for more than half of the season.Still, it would be understandable for Packers fans to vote for their own team here this year. This was still a team that entered the 2018 season with optimism, based at least in part around a new general manager and defensive coordinator. To scuffle to a 5-7-1 record at this point in the year absolutely should be considered a major disappointment. Here are the full numbers from SB Nation’s surveys: Through the ups and downs in the bulk of Mike McCarthy’s tenure as the Green Bay Packers’ head coach, there were a handful of assistant coaches who always stuck around. Winston Moss was one. James Campen another. The third was Joe Whitt, Jr., who was first hired by McCarthy back in 2008 as a defensive quality control coach. Two years later, McCarthy promoted Whitt to cornerbacks coach, and in 2018 he got a new title as defense - pass game coordinator. Now, after one year under that title and with McCarthy gone https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Davon-House-Jersey , Whitt is also out. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Packers fired him on Friday. This move comes on the same day that new head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Mike Pettine will return as the team’s defensive coordinator for the 2019 season.Whitt has drawn praise over the years from coaches and players alike for his ability to teach and connect with players. Former Packers corner Charles Woodson, for example, took to Twitter to express his support for Whitt in his sudden search for a new job:Considering the fact that Whitt helped Jaire Alexander to a largely successful rookie season, the move comes as some surprise. However, speculation is roiling that the Packers are trying to scrub the coaching staff of many of McCarthy’s long-time assistants to get more of a fresh start. Beat writer Tom Silverstein, for example, speculated that it may not have been LaFleur’s decision to fire Whitt, implying that it may have been a directive from above. With LaFleur reporting directly to team president Mark Murphy Bryan Bulaga Jersey , it seems plausible that Murphy may be insisting that coaches with career-long ties to McCarthy need to move on.With Whitt now gone, Campen and Joe Philbin are the two remaining Packers assistants who spent lengthy portions of their careers with McCarthy. Both arrived in Green Bay when Mike Sherman was the head coach, but were retained when McCarthy took over in 2006. Campen in particular appears to be a likely candidate to remain, given his excellent work as the Packers’ offensive line coach over the past decade-plus, but Whitt’s departure may suggest that the franchise wants some new blood in the organization. Stay tuned for more updates on the status of the rest of the coaching staff.

NASHVILLE Pat McAfee Color Rush Jersey , Tenn. (AP) — Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota is out against the Indianapolis Colts in the final game of the NFL regular season with the final spot in the AFC playoffs going to the winner.Mariota was limited in the two days he practiced after a stinger in his neck knocked him out of last week's win over Washington. The Titans (9-6) listed him as questionable for this game with the fourth-year quarterback also dealing with an injured foot. That leaves backup Blaine Gabbert making his third start this season against Indianapolis. Gabbert was on the field early warming up pregame with no sight of Mariota before the Titans announced their inactives. The Titans had no comment about an ESPN report that Mariota risked permanent damage if the quarterback played Sunday night.Tennessee already had declared starting linebacker Brian Orakpo out for a third straight game. That leaves the Titans without three defensive starters with four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jurrell Casey and cornerback Logan Ryan who both are on injured reserve. The Colts deactivated center Ryan Kelly, who also had been declared out Friday, along with offensive lineman Le'Raven Clark, cornerback Jalen Collins, receiver Daurice Fountain, safety Clayton Geathers, linebacker Ahmad Thomas and running back Jonathan Williams. The Titans also are sitting cornerback Kenneth Durden, running back Jeremy McNichols, linebacker LaTroy Lewis, guard Aaron Stinnie and offensive tackle Tyler Marz. INDIANAPOLIS 鈥?The Indianapolis Colts kept insisting Andrew Luck would play better after shoulder surgery. He did.Frank Reich acknowledged some of his best work came in a backup role.Apparently https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Jack-Doyle-Jersey , it still does.A healthy Luck and an opportunistic first-year coach led the Colts on a historic midseason turnaround, ending with a playoff run and a glimpse into a potentially promising future."We left our hearts on the field every game," Luck said Sunday, a day after a 31-13 elimination loss at Kansas City. "I know we all wished we played better yesterday. It's sad. We wanted this somewhat magical season to continue and we'll use that to motivate us."That could be bad news for a team that seemed to defy the odds at every turn. Most figured the Colts hit rock bottom when Josh McDaniels backed out of a deal to become the Colts' new coach while Luck continued to rehab his throwing shoulder in early February. General manager Chris Ballard wasted no time in making Reich, the offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl champion Eagles, his second choice. The odd sequence included Reich inheriting a defensive coordinator in Matt Eberflus, whom he didn't know much about and who was already plotting a conversion from a 3-4 front to a 4-3. Reich followed the advice of Ballard by keeping him in the same role and adding two more first-year coordinators to his staff. To outsiders, it looked like a complete rebuild. But the Colts never bought into the perception and delivered the kind of season nobody thought possible when they lost their fourth in a row in mid-October.That's when things changed.Luck rounded into form, the Colts developed a balanced attack, their revamped offensive line became a virtual fortress and the oft-criticized defense suddenly emerged as one of the league's stingiest units. The Colts (11-7) won nine of their last 10 regular-season games to become the third team in league history to make the postseason after starting 1-5 Adam Vinatieri Jersey , followed by a wild-card win at Houston."You wonder as a first-time head coach, what is this really going to be like? I just couldn't have imagined in my wildest dreams how this year was," Reich said. "The guys in this building, the guys in that locker room, the coaches and players, they just exceeded any of my wildest expectations."Everyone else's, too.Luck had the best overall season of his career, throwing for nearly 4,600 yards and 39 touchdowns while setting career highs in completions, attempts and percentage. He was sacked a league-low 18 times Marvin Harrison Color Rush Jersey , one season after the Colts allowed a league-high 56 sacks.Meanwhile, Marlon Mack fought off injuries to finish with five 100-yard games 鈥?the most by a Colts running back in more than a decade.Eric Ebron finally delivered on the first-round promise the Detroit Lions saw in 2014 by catching 13 touchdowns to lead the league's tight ends and earning his first Pro Bowl selection."It was a helluva time, a helluva season," center Ryan Kelly said. "Guys were fighting for each other and it was just a good time."But Reich's favorite might have been watching the rookies develop.Quenton Nelson and Braden Smith were rock solid at left guard and right tackle, and linebacker Darius Leonard led the league in tackles with a franchise-record 163. Nelson and Leonard became the first rookie teammates to earn first-team All-Pro honors since Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers achieved the feat in 1965.Now, with Luck heading into his first healthy offseason in four years, a veteran coach and proven players, Reich knows the expectations will increase next season. He promises to be ready."We had an opportunity to learn so many lessons this year," he said. "We lost four or five and then won 10 or 11. So we've had a taste of that. I think handling success and high expectations is always more difficult, but I believe in the guys https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Tarell-Basham-Jersey , the players, the leaders to get that done."NOTES: Kelly wouldn't rule out having surgery on his injured left knee but described the procedure as minor. … Pro Bowl tight end Jack Doyle said he spent two days in the hospital after suffering a season-ending kidney injury in late-November. Doyle told reporters he was feeling "pretty good," though he's still recovering. … Kicker Adam Vinatieri hopes to return for his 24th season after missing the shortest field goal of his career Saturday. He broke the NFL's career scoring record this season and now has 2,600 points. … Indy signed tight end Billy Brown, cornerback Jalen Collins, offensive linemen Antonio Garcia and De'Ondre Wesley, receivers Krishawn Hogan and Steve Ishmael, quarterback Phillip Walker and defensive linemen DeShawn Williams and Anthony Winbush to futures contracts Sunday.100View Gallery Gallery:View from the sidelines: NFL cheerleaders 2018Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports | Raj Mehta

After surrendering hits to the first two hitters of the inning, LHP Robby Scott came in and promptly served up a game-tying homer before getting out of the inning. The Aces (1-1) answered with a 3-spot of their own in the 7th, that included a homerun by Tim Locastro and RBI hits by Yasmany Tomas and Kevin Cron. Tomas also hit a 2-run homer in the 6th that put the Aces up 4-1 at the time. The bullpen was able to make the new lead stand, with Rubby De La Rosa and Jimmie Sherfy retiring the final 6 hitters. "WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Twinkie Town Farm ReportSatire Justin Bour Jersey , Irreverence, & Other HumorGame RecapsAnalysisThe Future of Jose BerriosNew,7commentsHave the Twins finally found a desperately needed ace?EDTShareTweetShareShareThe Future of Jose BerriosSteve Mitchell-USA TODAY SportsIt’s no secret that the Twins have been utterly devoid of an ace since Johan Santana was traded to the Mets over a decade ago. Since Santana’s last Opening Day start in 2008, the Twins have seen the likes of Livan Hernandez, Vance Worley, and Ricky Nolasco on the bump in Game 1 of the season. Enter Jose Berrios. The Puerto Rican right-hander was dominant on Opening day for the Twins in 2019, spinning 7 鈪?innings of shutout ball, coupled by 10 strikeouts. Could Berrios be the long awaited ace that Twins fans are looking for? Does he have the makeup of a pitcher who can go out and give his team a great chance to win every five days? Could he be the pitcher that throws two or three great games in a seven-game series to help the Twins (gulp) advance in the playoffs for the first time since 2002?While dreams of a deep playoff run may not come true this season, they do seem more likely in the near future with developing young players on the major league roster and a talented farm system. Ideally, Berrios will be a key part of those potential runs, as he won’t be a free agent until 2023. To predict the future value of Berrios, we will go back to his roots with the Twins.Drafted 32nd overall in the 2012 MLB Draft, Berrios impressed from the start of his minor league career. As an 18-year old out of Puerto Rico, he he quickly progressed through the farm system, displaying a sub-four ERA each year. Ranked as a top 100 prospect by MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus before 2014, Berrios really hit his stride in that season. The right-hander posted a 2.76 ERA that year, shooting up to the top 50 in most rankings prior to the 2015 season. After another stellar year in 2015 in AA and AAA (2.87 ERA), Berrios was ranked in the top 20 in both the Baseball Prospectus and MLB.com prospect rankings.Based on Berrios’ minor league statistics, the right-hander would seem likely to develop into an ace. However, in his first year in the big leagues, Berrios struggled mightily, going 3-7 with an 8.02 ERA and just a 7.6 K/9. Berrios has improved significantly since then, posting a 3.89 ERA in 2017 and a 3.84 mark in 2018. Those ERA’s don’t scream “ace” http://www.marlinsfanproshop.com/authentic-starlin-castro-jersey , but Berrios was just 23 and 24 for those seasons, and has shown flashes of elite potential in both seasons. Taking a look at his statcast metrics, Berrios has improved throughout his short major league career. His whiff rate has increased to in each of his past three seasons, sitting at 26.4% through two starts this season (MLB average: 24%). His weak contact rates have also increased in of his seasons, including an enormous 15.8%(MLB average: 4.7%) through 14.2 innings this year. Berrios’ chase rates have also increased in each of his past three years in the bigs, while the contact percentage for hitters on those pitches has dropped every year as well. This season batters have made contact on just 50% of his pitches that they chase, a full ten percent below the major league average (60%). The overall effectiveness of Berrios’ pitch arsenal will be a key in his development from an above average pitcher to an ace. First of all, The young right-hander has a unique pitch mix that can be baffling to batters when used correctly. Here is a look at Baseball Savant’s pitcher comparisons to Berrios between .42-1.0 (similarity score). This is put together based on the speed and movement of Berrios’ pitchers.Graphic by Baseball SavantIn contrast, take a look at the Kyle Gibson’s similarity scores from .42 to 1.0.Graphic by Baseball SavantBerrios’ unique pitch arsenal keys on his curveball, as he has thrown the deuce more each season. Last season, batters had just .253 wOBA against Berrios’ curve to go along with a 38.8% whiff rate. However, batters hit 10 home runs off of the young right-hander’s number two, the most among any of his pitches. This season, Berrios has throw the curveball 37.9% of the time, as batters have just a .088 wOBA(!) against the pitch. Limiting the long ball will be key for Berrios to take the next step to becoming an ace, as he gave up 25 home runs last year (tied for 25th most in the MLB). Another key will be Berrios’ change-up. The 24-year old has featured his change-up more in his first two starts of 2019 than in past years, with a higher rate of success. He has generated a 46.2% whiff rate on the pitch in his first 14.2 innings this year. He also has thrown it solely against left-handed batters so far, featuring the change 25.6% of the time against southpaw hitters. If the pitch can become a legitimate weapon this season, Berrios should be able improve his already solid numbers versus lefties in 2019. Berrios has shown improvement in each of the past three seasons, and with the help of the new pitching coach Wes Johnson, it seems likely the young Puerto Rican will continue to improve in 2019. He has already shown flashes of his potential early in this season, and if he continues his current performance he will easily be the Twins’ best hurler since Johan Santana. And he will also become ace the Twins and fans have been searching for the past decade. Roy Halladay? Not so much."SnakePit Hall of Fame Inductees2015 - Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez2016 - Ken Griffey Jr.2017 - Jeff Bagwell Nick Wittgren Jersey , Craig Biggio, Vladimir Guerrero, Mike Piazza, Curt Schilling, John Smoltz2018 - Chipper Jones, Ivan Rodriguez, Edgar Martinez2019 - Mariano Rivera, Trevor Hoffman, Jim ThomeWe had 54 ballots cast this year, a 30% increase on last year’s figure, and that made the cut-off point 41 votes needed for election. Rivera topped the poll, but failed to become a unanimous selection, though was named on all but two ballots. Trevor Hoffman missed out by one vote last time, but made it well over the finishing line this time round, getting 45 votes, for an 83.3% selection rate. Like Hoffman, Jim Thome had made into Cooperstown in 2017, but been turned away from SnakePit Towers. We moved back into line there too, though it was much closer for Thome, as he was named on exactly the 41 ballots necessary for AZSP-HOF induction. Now that we’ve aligned more closely with the official Hall of Fame, it’ll be interesting to see what happens there. The results will be announced later today (4pm Arizona time, on the MLB Network), and Rivera is a lock to get in there. Indeed Julio Urias Jersey , at the time of writing (Monday night), he is a unanimous choice on the BBHOF tracker, which collects the results of ballots whose authors have made them public. According to the current results there, he will be joined by Roy Halladay for sure, which is interesting, as he fell short of election here, getting two-thirds of nominations. Edgar Martinez will also be elected - we put him in last year - and Mike Mussina seems possible too, even though he fell short of even 60% on the SnakePit. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens both continue to creep closer. They were slightly over 50% last time, but Bonds in particular ticket sharply upwards, to 68.5%. That’s still short of the necessary votes for induction, sparing me the unfortunate task of having to raze the entire SnakePit Hall of Fame to the ground. [“It became necessary to destroy the SnakePit Hall of Fame, in order to save it...”] At the other end, pour a quick one out for Ted Lilly, Placido Polanco and Rick Ankiel, who failed to muster a single sympathy vote between them. Actually, in Lilly’s case, throw one to the ground in a fit of pique. Here are the full results, in descending order, with the number of votes and percentage of mentions. TAMPA Nelson Cruz Jersey , Fla. (AP) — The New York Yankees open the season with likely baseball’s most accomplished injured list.Luis Severino, CC Sabathia, Dellin Betances, Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks, Jordan Montgomery and just-about-forgotten Jacoby Ellsbury all start on the sidelines.Still, the Yankees have among the most formidable lineups in the major leagues, a power plant that includes Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez.“We’ve taken hits. It’s not the way you would draw it up, but at the same time it’s part of the playing season where you’re going to be down for a period of time,” general manager Brian Cashman said. “So when you’re dealing with them, then there’s degree of hits and these are resolvable ones. These have expiration timing tags to them. For that, you’re thankful.”New York went 100-62 last season for its best record since 2009, yet finished eight games back of the AL East champion Boston Red Sox, who won the World Series for the fourth time in 15 seasons. Last year’s Yankees set a major league record with 267 homers, three more than the 1997 Seattle Mariners. New York was the first team with a dozen players to reach double digits in long balls, and the first with 20 or more from all nine spots in the batting order. This year’s lineup figures to have another blast.“Get this whole team healthy, we’re going to crush the record that we set last year,” Judge said.New York didn’t pay luxury tax last year for the first time since the penalty on high-spending teams started in 2003, showing unusual restraint. The Yankees shot back up this year after adding Adam Ottavino and DJ LeMahieu, acquiring James Paxton and re-signing Sabathia, Zack Britton, Brett Gardner and J.A. Happ.Gardner and Sabathia are the remaining links to the Yankees’ last World Series title, in 2009.“It has flown by, but it’s been way too long,” Gardner said. “I know the front office and the ownership Carlos Ruiz Jersey , obviously, they go out of their way to try and put the best possible team on the field every year and it’s been a disappointing 10 years. And I know for our fans it’s been disappointing, too. But as one of the guys that’s been in this room the whole time, it’s been just as disappointing, if not more so, for me. And I’ve lost probably more sleep over it than just about anybody.”The Baby Bombers of Judge, Sanchez, Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar helped draw an AL-high 3,482,865 fans at home last year, an average of 42,998 per game. That was up from 3,146,966 in 2017 and New York’s highest at home since the dwindling days of the Derek Jeter-Mariano Rivera era in 2012. There were 23 home sellouts, the most at new Yankee Stadium, which opened in 2009.“The expectations are great. We welcome that,” second-year manager Aaron Boone said. The Yankees open the season March 28 at home against the OriolesNEW FACESNew York failed to sign Patrick Corbin, making Paxton the biggest acquisition to bolster a rotation that includes Sabathia (38) and Happ (36). Ottavino, the first No. 0 in Yankees’ history, joins an already standout bullpen led by Aroldis Chapman and Britton, who while not a new face has a new spelling — he switched from Zach. Troy Tulowitzki was signed for the minimum salary to play shortstop until Gregorius returns this summer from Tommy John surgery.ROOKIES TO WATCHLeft-hander Stephen Tarpley could be the only rookie on the opening day roster, filling an opening created when Betances got hurt. Touted 21-year-old outfielder Estevan Florial hit .355 in 13 spring training games before breaking his right wrist.WHAT’S UP, DOC?Severino (right shoulder inflammation) will miss April, Sabathia (knee surgery and heart stent) will likely miss the first few weeks and Hicks (back) and Betances (right shoulder inflammation) also are sidelined. Gregorius (elbow ligament replacement on Oct. 17), Ellsbury (left hip surgery on Aug. 6, right foot plantar fasciitis) and Montgomery (elbow ligament replacement on June 7) are longer-term rehabs.BOUNCING BACK?Sanchez hit .186 with 18 homers and 53 RBIs last year http://www.marinersfanproshop.com/authentic-edgar-martinez-jersey , led the major leagues with 18 passed balls and was behind the plate for 45 wild pitches, raising his two-year totals to 34 passed balls and 98 wild pitches. First baseman Greg Bird had surgery March 27 last year to remove a broken spur on the outside of his right ankle. He did not play for the Yankees until May 26 and wound up with a .199 batting average, 11 homers and 38 RBIs over 82 games. Tulowitzki missed last season with Toronto because of surgery on April 2 for bone spurs in his right and left heels, started spring training slowly but has started to show some life at the plate. Touted outfielder Clint Frazier sustained a concussion Feb. 24 last year making a leaping catch and was limited to 15 major league games and 54 in the minors. He was hitting below .200 in spring training. The DBacks also had a runner in scoring position in the 3rd, thanks to a hustle double by Vargas, but againstranded the runner when Ketel Marte lined out hard to 2b and Christian Walker flew out to right.Things turned sour for Matt Koch in the 4th. He had begun the game throwing 93-94 MPH 4 seamers, but by the 4th inning had lost a couple ticks off that.According to Torey Lovullo he also got away from the pitch sequencing that was working for him earlier, trying to lead with breaking pitches. That resulted in aleadoff walk to Ben Zobrist, a Kris Bryant single, and then a double smoked down the right field line by Anthony Rizzo . That produced 2 quick runs.3 groundouts later one more run had scored, and the Cubs had a 3-0 lead. They would pad that in the 5th, when David Bote took Koch deep for a solo shot. The DBacks meanwhile contiunued to put runners in scoring position, but failed to bring them home. They hadrunners on 1st and 3rd and one out in the 4th,but Tomlinson and Querecutoonce again stranded the runners. This would be a theme for the rest of the day.In all the DBacks managed8 hits http://www.marinersfanproshop.com/authentic-edgar-martinez-jersey , including 4 doubles and drew 4 walks. But they were just 1 for 17 with runners in scoring position and never did manage to push across any more runs. The good news here I guess is the lineup only contained three projected starting players (Souza, Marte, and Carson Kelly ).Kelly showed good plate discipline today, seeing 19 pitches in his 3 PA, including 2 walks and a 4-6-3 DP that was hit sharply. Rubby De La Rosahad a difficult time in the6th inning, walking 2 and giving up 2 hits. He managed just 6 strikes among his 18 pitches, (2 of them being the base hits).Miguel Aguilar came on in relief of Rubby, gave up a hit and then had to be removed from the game due to an injury to a side muscle. Bud Jeter relieved him, and gave up a hit of his own. In all 3 runs scored in the inning, all charged to Rubby. That closed out the scoring.Greg Holland threw a scoreless1-2-3 7th.But he did it mostly throwing sliders and off speed stuff, as his 4 seam fastball is still stuck around 89-90 MPH.Yoshi Hirano worked around a leadoff walk to pitch a scoreless 8th, striking out the last two batters he faced. And Andrew Chafin got out of a jam caused by an error by Yasmany Tomas dropping a ball at first base. (Some say it was a bad feed from the secondbaseman, but I didn’t see that). Of note, Marcus Wilson made an incredible catch on a smash off the bat of Mike Zagunis to save a run.Racing all the way to the track in Left Center Field,Wilson dove fully outstretched on the dead run to make the catch as he slammed onto the track. He dropped the ball on the transfer, but the ball was correctly ruled a catch. (This time I caught the replay). A few other notes:A record crowd today of 14,035 enjoyed a perfect 76 degrees with a pretty swift breeze blowing inJarrod Dyson and Adam Jones both played on the back fields yesterday and it sounds like both will be ready for opening day despite no commitment as to exactly when they would appear in official spring games. Things are not looking as bright for TJ McFarland who has still not thrown off a mound, Torey Lovullo used the words“long shot” with regards to getting TJ into back to back games before the season starts, which is something he needs to do to be ready to start the year on the opening day roster.David Peralta played on the back fields today along with 3 or 4 other regular starters, and hit the ball with the most authority, according to reports.Tomorrow is split squad day. Brute Fest get together happening tomorrow for game vs White Sox at SRF.Pre game meetup at Buffalo Wild Wings, Pavillions Mall. It’s a split squad game, so if you are on the west side, you can catch the DBacks vs the Rangers in Surprise as well.

Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsThat the Chicago White Sox were only slightly more dreadful than their crosstown rivals in Friday’s 11-9 descent into madness provides little recompense. After all, it was a game that, at least from the pitching end, would have been better suited for February play, not a tuneup 10 days from Opening Day.Lucas Giolito started and, as is his spring wont http://www.padresfanproshop.com/authentic-brad-hand-jersey , came away positive with his effort. He was particularly pleased with the feel of his curve, some “10 times” better than it was a year ago, per comments postgame. And he did whiff seven Cubs over five innings — including four in the first frame, courtesy of a dropped third. Your browser does not support HTML5 video. But before Giolito walks away to the whirlpool too slap-happy, the lanky righthander still surrendered two (solo) homers, six hits, two walks and four earned runs over those five innings. Perhaps such postgame pride is a boon of diminished expectations.Your browser does not support HTML5 video.Problem was, unlike other outings for Giolito this spring, his bullpen did little bail him out today. We may be entering official bunchy-underwear territory with last year’s rookie southpaw phenom Jace Fry, who subbed for Giolito in the sixth and failed to survive the frame, giving up two earned, two hits, and a homer before getting the hook. “Previously Teflon” Dylan Covey applied a touch more lighter fluid to the flaming wreck at Camelback Ranch, surrendering an RBI single to his first batter, Albert Almora, and promptly whiffing on a pickoff throw against pinch-runner Wyton Bernard. Covey only escaped the inning thanks to Leury Garc铆a, who fielded a second straight hit, David Bote’s single, and nailed Bernard trying to score. In the seventh, Covey surrendered three more singles and two runs, ending the outing having given up five hits and two earned in 1 1鈦? innings. The good side of the White Sox surrendering eight runs in the first seven innings was that the Cubs did same. After a James McCann RBI single got the hometown heroes on the board in the third, Yo谩n Moncada took a first-pitch, outer-half changeup from northside $20 million southpaw Cole Hamels deep to left field for a three-run bomb that put the White Sox up, 4-3. Oh, and hell yeah, Nancy Faust was on hand to tickle the ivories, attempting to coax a curtain call outta Yo谩n with a “Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)” straight outta 1977.Moncada has shown some prodigious production from the right side this spring Tony Gwynn Jersey , and jumping on first-pitch changeup cheese from Hamels is a reflection of his increased aggression at the plate. Tentatively, pencil Moncada in for far fewer caught lookings this season. After the Cubs tied the game back up in the fourth, Brandon Guyer tapped an RBI safety to drive in Adam Engel in the bottom half, putting the White Sox back up, 5-4. Finally, after the Cubs pushed ahead with their clubbing of Covey, the baby Sox took over and rallied to tie in the bottom of the seventh. After Zack Collins led off with a K came three straight hits, trailed by a Laz Rivera double, to get one run on the board. After Danny Mendick was cut down at home on a Nick Madrigal tapper to third for the second out, Luis Robert got all clutch again, with a double down the left-field line to plate two and knot the game, 8-8.And that’s where Nate Jones game in. Our lead SSS sassmouth, the unknown comic known as @SouthSideSox, explains today’s Nate Jones Experience succinctly:It was sorta ugly: as Daryl (sorta) said, the dance card went single-homer-double-walk and by golly, justlikethat the White Sox were down, 10-8, Jones failing to record an out before Ricky hooked him. Ryan Burr, entering a house on fire, got Zack Short to whiff and then benefitted from another dumb Cubbie baserunning blunder (Kyle Schwarber — I repeat, Kyle Schwarber — was cut down on a 2-1 count with one out, the lead runner in a double steal attempt), as Jared Young learned not the lessons of his forebears and was likewise erased at third base in a steal attempt. Burr almost parlayed such dopiness into a miracle act of firefighting, but alas latest Theo Epstein bronzing project Nico Hoerner doubled in a run, making the game 11-8.In the bottom of the ninth, after another three straight hits with one out (capped by a Madrigal RBI single), Robert stepped to the plate as the winning run Dave Winfield Jersey , having pulled this act twice already (with dingers) in his two South Side springs. But La Pantera had little growl in him in the end, grounding into a game-ending, 6-4-3 double play.Other, random highlights from the ballgame:Two hits apiece from , Guyer, Rivera (serving some notice that, dudes, just keep overlooking me, I’ll be playing for a roster spot in a year’s time), Mendick and McCann.Six of nine RBI on the afternoon came with two out.Burr, all but assured himself of heading north with the club, between his steely outing in the eighth and Juan Minaya getting the heave-ho outta camp and down to Triple-A after a rough spring.Alex , had a one-hit, scoreless ninth, without the benefit of any Cubbie baserunning foppery. He had a brief injury scare while taking a tumble attempting to field Taylor Davis’ infield single, but shrugged it off like a badass hombre and coaxed a 3-unassisted outta Bernard.Despite an uneven spring, the White Sox fall to just 7-11, four games worse than those gilded ivy bumblers in Cactus play. Just imagine if the two teams are within four games of one another when the games are for real, this summer.Tomorrow brings another matinee in front of a sellout Camelback crowd, this time hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers. Nova attempts to right the ship against a heretofore-unknown but utterly seventies B-movie looking L.A. hurler named Tony Gonsolin. Tune in at WhiteSox.com or NBC Sports Chicago to catch all the funky bass rocking the park as Gonsolin pitches, before the White Sox bats knock him west to a Hollywood back lot. Game’s at 3:05 CT sharp, pardners.
