TAMPA Nelson Cruz Jersey , Fla. (AP) — The New York Yankees open the season with likely baseball’s most accomplished injured list.Luis Severino, CC Sabathia, Dellin Betances, Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks, Jordan Montgomery and just-about-forgotten Jacoby Ellsbury all start on the sidelines.Still, the Yankees have among the most formidable lineups in the major leagues, a power plant that includes Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez.“We’ve taken hits. It’s not the way you would draw it up, but at the same time it’s part of the playing season where you’re going to be down for a period of time,” general manager Brian Cashman said. “So when you’re dealing with them, then there’s degree of hits and these are resolvable ones. These have expiration timing tags to them. For that, you’re thankful.”New York went 100-62 last season for its best record since 2009, yet finished eight games back of the AL East champion Boston Red Sox, who won the World Series for the fourth time in 15 seasons. Last year’s Yankees set a major league record with 267 homers, three more than the 1997 Seattle Mariners. New York was the first team with a dozen players to reach double digits in long balls, and the first with 20 or more from all nine spots in the batting order. This year’s lineup figures to have another blast.“Get this whole team healthy, we’re going to crush the record that we set last year,” Judge said.New York didn’t pay luxury tax last year for the first time since the penalty on high-spending teams started in 2003, showing unusual restraint. The Yankees shot back up this year after adding Adam Ottavino and DJ LeMahieu, acquiring James Paxton and re-signing Sabathia, Zack Britton, Brett Gardner and J.A. Happ.Gardner and Sabathia are the remaining links to the Yankees’ last World Series title, in 2009.“It has flown by, but it’s been way too long,” Gardner said. “I know the front office and the ownership Carlos Ruiz Jersey , obviously, they go out of their way to try and put the best possible team on the field every year and it’s been a disappointing 10 years. And I know for our fans it’s been disappointing, too. But as one of the guys that’s been in this room the whole time, it’s been just as disappointing, if not more so, for me. And I’ve lost probably more sleep over it than just about anybody.”The Baby Bombers of Judge, Sanchez, Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar helped draw an AL-high 3,482,865 fans at home last year, an average of 42,998 per game. That was up from 3,146,966 in 2017 and New York’s highest at home since the dwindling days of the Derek Jeter-Mariano Rivera era in 2012. There were 23 home sellouts, the most at new Yankee Stadium, which opened in 2009.“The expectations are great. We welcome that,” second-year manager Aaron Boone said. The Yankees open the season March 28 at home against the OriolesNEW FACESNew York failed to sign Patrick Corbin, making Paxton the biggest acquisition to bolster a rotation that includes Sabathia (38) and Happ (36). Ottavino, the first No. 0 in Yankees’ history, joins an already standout bullpen led by Aroldis Chapman and Britton, who while not a new face has a new spelling — he switched from Zach. Troy Tulowitzki was signed for the minimum salary to play shortstop until Gregorius returns this summer from Tommy John surgery.ROOKIES TO WATCHLeft-hander Stephen Tarpley could be the only rookie on the opening day roster, filling an opening created when Betances got hurt. Touted 21-year-old outfielder Estevan Florial hit .355 in 13 spring training games before breaking his right wrist.WHAT’S UP, DOC?Severino (right shoulder inflammation) will miss April, Sabathia (knee surgery and heart stent) will likely miss the first few weeks and Hicks (back) and Betances (right shoulder inflammation) also are sidelined. Gregorius (elbow ligament replacement on Oct. 17), Ellsbury (left hip surgery on Aug. 6, right foot plantar fasciitis) and Montgomery (elbow ligament replacement on June 7) are longer-term rehabs.BOUNCING BACK?Sanchez hit .186 with 18 homers and 53 RBIs last year http://www.marinersfanproshop.com/authentic-edgar-martinez-jersey , led the major leagues with 18 passed balls and was behind the plate for 45 wild pitches, raising his two-year totals to 34 passed balls and 98 wild pitches. First baseman Greg Bird had surgery March 27 last year to remove a broken spur on the outside of his right ankle. He did not play for the Yankees until May 26 and wound up with a .199 batting average, 11 homers and 38 RBIs over 82 games. Tulowitzki missed last season with Toronto because of surgery on April 2 for bone spurs in his right and left heels, started spring training slowly but has started to show some life at the plate. Touted outfielder Clint Frazier sustained a concussion Feb. 24 last year making a leaping catch and was limited to 15 major league games and 54 in the minors. He was hitting below .200 in spring training. Another tough day for DBacks offense"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Diamondbacks Farm TeamsGameday ThreadsDiamondbacks NewsDiamondbacks Game ReportsFang FoodDiamondbacks 1, Cubs 7New,5commentsAnother tough day for DBacks offenseEDTShareTweetShareShareDiamondbacks 1, Cubs 7The game started off promising enough.Matt Koch got through a scoreless first inning thanks to a nifty stop by Kelby Tomlinson to turn an inning ending double play.In the bottom half, facing Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks, Steven Souza Jr. drew a leadoff walk, stole 2nd, and scored on an Ildemaro Vargas bloop hit into center to give the Dbacks a 1-0 lead.Koch went on to post scoreless innings in the 2nd and 3rd,walking one but thanks to another double play, faced just the minimum batters.John Ryan Murphy got his first hit of spring, a double to right field, and even stole 3rd base, but was stranded there when Tomlinson struck out and Juniel Querecuto grounded out to 2nd. The DBacks also had a runner in scoring position in the 3rd, thanks to a hustle double by Vargas, but againstranded the runner when Ketel Marte lined out hard to 2b and Christian Walker flew out to right.Things turned sour for Matt Koch in the 4th. He had begun the game throwing 93-94 MPH 4 seamers, but by the 4th inning had lost a couple ticks off that.According to Torey Lovullo he also got away from the pitch sequencing that was working for him earlier, trying to lead with breaking pitches. That resulted in aleadoff walk to Ben Zobrist, a Kris Bryant single, and then a double smoked down the right field line by Anthony Rizzo . That produced 2 quick runs.3 groundouts later one more run had scored, and the Cubs had a 3-0 lead. They would pad that in the 5th, when David Bote took Koch deep for a solo shot. The DBacks meanwhile contiunued to put runners in scoring position, but failed to bring them home. They hadrunners on 1st and 3rd and one out in the 4th,but Tomlinson and Querecutoonce again stranded the runners. This would be a theme for the rest of the day.In all the DBacks managed8 hits http://www.marinersfanproshop.com/authentic-edgar-martinez-jersey , including 4 doubles and drew 4 walks. But they were just 1 for 17 with runners in scoring position and never did manage to push across any more runs. The good news here I guess is the lineup only contained three projected starting players (Souza, Marte, and Carson Kelly ).Kelly showed good plate discipline today, seeing 19 pitches in his 3 PA, including 2 walks and a 4-6-3 DP that was hit sharply. Rubby De La Rosahad a difficult time in the6th inning, walking 2 and giving up 2 hits. He managed just 6 strikes among his 18 pitches, (2 of them being the base hits).Miguel Aguilar came on in relief of Rubby, gave up a hit and then had to be removed from the game due to an injury to a side muscle. Bud Jeter relieved him, and gave up a hit of his own. In all 3 runs scored in the inning, all charged to Rubby. That closed out the scoring.Greg Holland threw a scoreless1-2-3 7th.But he did it mostly throwing sliders and off speed stuff, as his 4 seam fastball is still stuck around 89-90 MPH.Yoshi Hirano worked around a leadoff walk to pitch a scoreless 8th, striking out the last two batters he faced. And Andrew Chafin got out of a jam caused by an error by Yasmany Tomas dropping a ball at first base. (Some say it was a bad feed from the secondbaseman, but I didn’t see that). Of note, Marcus Wilson made an incredible catch on a smash off the bat of Mike Zagunis to save a run.Racing all the way to the track in Left Center Field,Wilson dove fully outstretched on the dead run to make the catch as he slammed onto the track. He dropped the ball on the transfer, but the ball was correctly ruled a catch. (This time I caught the replay). A few other notes:A record crowd today of 14,035 enjoyed a perfect 76 degrees with a pretty swift breeze blowing inJarrod Dyson and Adam Jones both played on the back fields yesterday and it sounds like both will be ready for opening day despite no commitment as to exactly when they would appear in official spring games. Things are not looking as bright for TJ McFarland who has still not thrown off a mound, Torey Lovullo used the words“long shot” with regards to getting TJ into back to back games before the season starts, which is something he needs to do to be ready to start the year on the opening day roster.David Peralta played on the back fields today along with 3 or 4 other regular starters, and hit the ball with the most authority, according to reports.Tomorrow is split squad day. Brute Fest get together happening tomorrow for game vs White Sox at SRF.Pre game meetup at Buffalo Wild Wings, Pavillions Mall. It’s a split squad game, so if you are on the west side, you can catch the DBacks vs the Rangers in Surprise as well.
