    What they still need
The Flames addressed several areas that plagued them, but they could benefit from adding depth on defense this offseason. General manager Brad Treliving also has to sign Hanifin and Lindholm, each a restricted free agent.

    Fantasy focus
It seems to be the annual fantasy question surrounding the Flames Who will play right wing on the top line with Gaudreau, a left wing, and Monahan, a center? That elite duo finished tied for fourth in the NHL in 2017 18 with 41 team goals when each player had a point, and that was in a season when Monahan played through multiple injuries. The Flames could go in several directions to choose the third member on that line this season. Peters could move left wing Matthew Tkachuk to the opposite wing, or one of their newcomers, Neal or Lindholm, could play in that spot. Neal s fantasy value peaked when he played on Evgeni Malkin s wing with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2011 12, but he s been more of a secondary scorer in recent seasons with the Nashville Predators and Golden Knights. Lindholm likely will play center and wing in Calgary s top nine but may not see much line stability. Tkachuk, who finished in the top 100 in Yahoo s rankings in each of his first two NHL seasons, is the safest bet of the three to return fantasy value and is worth reaching for in the sixth round of a 12 team fantasy draft with potential top line exposure. Rasmus Dahlin has signed his entry level contract with the Buffalo Sabres and will now concentrate on making the team out of training camp.
There was some excellent news for the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, as they continue their mission to turnaround the team’s fortunes. As per the Associated Press, Rasmus Dahlin has signed his entry level contract.

In truth, the signing was a standard procedure, as Dahlin signed a max contract. The deal is for three years and comes with a cap hit of 925,000.

However https://www.bufsabresfans.com/matt-tennyson-jersey-c-3.html, where the 18 year old can really earn some decent money https://www.bufsabresfans.com/marco-scandella-jersey-c-4.html, is related to bonuses. As reported by Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News, he can make up to 2.85 million in each of the next three seasons, based on performance bonuses.

Dahlin has been described as a franchise changing blue liner. He is projected to make the Sabres’ team out of training camp and contribute right away at the NHL level.

As you’d expect, the 2018 first overall draft pick is delighted with his new deal. As per his Instagram page, he wrote

Becoming a NHL contract has been my dream since I started playing hockey! Now I have done it with the Buffalo Sabers, it could not be better! I want to take care of thanking my family and everyone in my presence who has helped me along the way
While there are very few guarantees in the world of hockey, there is no real reason why Dahlin shouldn’t succeed with the Sabres. He is an elite prospect who has the dream combination of exceptional hockey IQ, skill and skating ability.

Considering his age, the Swede is already 6 foot 3 and 185 pounds. He should only become bigger and stronger in the coming months and years.
In addition Robin Lehner Jersey, Dahlin is just the latest in an excellent core of young talent, which gives the Swords and their fans plenty of reason to be optimistic after a mostly disappointing seven seasons on the ice. Combined with the likes of Jack Eichel, Casey Mittelstadt and Alex Nylander, the future looks bright in Western New York.

You could make an argument for the Sabres bringing the left shot defenseman along slowly and not putting too much pressure and expectation on him. However, the general consensus among hockey scouts is that he can and will help the team right away.

Either way https://www.bufsabresfans.com/chad-johnson-jersey-c-2.html, it’s going to be an interesting few months in Buffalo. And no one will be surprised if Dahlin is on the ice when the Sabres drop the puck, come opening night on Oct. 4.

Heading into their first full season after being sellers, many expect the Rangers to flop big time. Flopping would mean missing the playoffs by a large margin and continuing the rebuild well into next offseason. However, https://www.rangersnyfans.com/jesper-fast-jersey-c-19.html with young prospects getting their shot and the handful of NHL guys on the roster to start the season, this Rangers team is one that can shock the world.

Starting off with the man who has been the backbone of this team for the past decade, Henrik Lundqvist is still the man that we all fell in love with from the start. I highly doubt that Hank will have any fall off, given what he’s shown over the past few years. The King still has it, and with Alexandar Georgiev expected to be the full time backup this season https://www.rangersnyfans.com/filip-chytil-jersey-c-21.html, Lundqvist will probably be relied upon less than usual throughout the 2018 19 season.

Moving on to the Rangers forward group, there are a lot of intriguing things to consider. For starters, the Rangers should have a strong core of NHL experienced guys who know what it’s like to play multiple seasons in New York. Guys like, Chris Kreider, Mats Zuccarello, Pavel Buchnevich, Mika Zibanejad, Jesper Fast and even Vladislav Namestnikov, who signed a two year contract on July 1, have all shown that they can produce on a high level.

All of this is great, but the Rangers still have RFAs in their forward group that need to be dealt with. Kevin Hayes, for instance, who is still an RFA https://www.rangersnyfans.com/david-desharnais-jersey-c-20.html, put up career numbers last season and if/when he re signs, those numbers are expected to keep on climbing. The same can be said for Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad, two guys that are expected to play at a high level throughout the season and lead the pack up front. For Mats Zuccarello, the trade rumors seemingly have slowed down, and we know what he brings to the table each and every game. Heart and the will to win, which all of these guys will be determined to bring next season while playing with a young squad.

Defensively is where the Rangers can see some possible changes, along with some unknowns. What’s known is that Brady Skjei, once re signed, and Kevin Shattenkirk will lead the way, along with veteran Marc Staal. The rest of the defense will be established in training camp Pavel Buchnevich Jersey, and the Rangers have plenty of young guys to choose from, along with some veterans like Brendan Smith. Young guys that saw some playing time at the end of last season who could be in the lineup in October include John Gilmour, Rob O’Gara, Tony DeAngelo and Neal Pionk, who stood out the most at the end of last season. Some more defensive help also came in free agency, as the Rangers signed former Ottawa Senator Fredrik Claesson, who is just 25 years old. The defense for the Rangers, which has been suspect over the last few seasons, is definitely the biggest question mark heading into this season.

Lastly, the recent acquisitions by the Rangers can give this team the push they need. 2017 first round picks Lias Andersson and Filip Chytil should be with the Rangers for a full season. These guys got called up for the last handful of games last season and have Rangers fans really excited about what they can do over a full season. Andersson and Chytil lead a pack of prospects that could easily get their shot at the opening night roster if they show up big in training camp. Guys like Ryan Lindgren, Brett Howden, Libor Hajek, Ty Ronning and many more can potentially give the Rangers the firepower they need.

I like to look at these young guys in the best way possible, and in doing so I compare this upcoming year for the Rangers like the Golden Knights of just last year. A few veterans leading the pack, but mostly young guys who haven’t been given a shot to reach their full potential at a high level. Not saying the Rangers are going to come anywhere close to a Stanley Cup Final, but it’s just a nice way to think of this upcoming season.

With the signing of John Tavares, speculation has continued regarding who will be the next Toronto Maple Leafs captain, but the reality is there is no need to rush into such a decision.
Throughout the majority of last season, the overriding sentiment was that Auston Matthews would eventually be named as the next captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs. But that was before John Tavares entered the fray.

With his signing, there is a growing belief Tavares will now be picked to take over as team captain. In fact, several members of the media have speculated as much.
f and when this were to happen, there are some concerns about how Matthews will react. This follows rumors — unsubstantiated by the way — that he complained to coach Mike Babcock about not seeing enough time on the ice.

First up, if Tavares is to become the next captain of the Leafs https://www.tormapleleafsfans.com/eric-fehr-jersey-c-21.html, Matthews has to be smart enough to accept such a decision. After all, he’s only 20 years old and he still has a lot to learn. Although we do acknowledge Tavares was given the same honor at a similarly young age — 23 — with the New York Islanders.

Second — and more importantly — the Leafs can forgo any potential unrest by avoiding naming a captain full stop. The reality is there is no real need for such a role anymore Tyler Bozak Jersey, with it being more an honor than anything else.

Essentially, it is a figurehead position to be named as captain in this day and age of the NHL. You don’t need a ‘C’ on your jersey, for your teammates to know if you’re a leader.

Besides, the Leafs have done pretty well these past two seasons without having an official captain. In fact, they’ve made the playoffs on both occasions.

In addition, it’s not as if this is an unprecedented approach by the Leafs. They’ve played without a captain on two previous occasions https://www.tormapleleafsfans.com/nazem-kadri-jersey-c-19.html, between 1986 89 and 2008 10.

Ultimately though, if the Buds do decide to name a team captain. There really is no rush at this stage https://www.tormapleleafsfans.com/zach-hyman-jersey-c-20.html, with the new season still three months away.

In any event, we would select Patrick Marleau as the next captain anyway. With his experience, leadership skills and ability to command respect, the 38 year old is the ideal candidate for the role.
