Womens Aaron Ripkowski Jersey , the best players in the AFC and NFC (minus those on the two teams going to Super Bowl LIII) will square off in the 2019 Pro Bowl. Earlier this week, the NFC was victorious in the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown, thanks to a comeback victory and a win in the winner-take-all dodgeball game.Last year’s game was an exciting game that came down to the wire. A touchdown pass from Derek Carr to Delanie Walker put the AFC ahead 24-23 late, and Von Miller sealed the context by forcing a Jared Goff fumble on a sack. This year, however, Goff will not be in attendance, with the Los Angeles Rams headed to the Super Bowl. The Rams’ four Pro Bowlers are skipping the game, as are the two Patriots who were voted onto the roster. Here’s how and when to tune in for today’s exhibition.2019 Pro BowlDate: Sunday, January 27th Womens Bart Starr Jersey , 2019Time: 3:00 PM Eastern TimeVenue: Camping World Stadium, Orlando, FloridaTV Networks: ESPN, ABC, & Disney XDOnline Streaming: WatchESPN, ESPN app, ABC online, DisneyNowPackers Pro BowlersWR Davante AdamsQB Aaron Rodgers (withdrew due to injury)Full Pro Bowl Rosters GREEN BAY, Wis. — Packers wideout Davante Adams is optimistic that he will be able to play in Green Bay’s season finale against the Detroit Lions Dave Robinson Jersey White , a game in which he would have a shot to break a couple of franchise receiving records.Adams missed practice on Wednesday. The star receiver hurt his right knee in last week’s 44-38 overtime win over the New York Jets.“I see myself being out there. I’m always going to be optimistic. A little sore right now, but we’ll play it throughout the week and see how it feels,” Adams said in the locker room.More Packers coverage from FOX Sports WisconsinBucks’ Wes Matthews loves Wisconsin, is a Vikings fanPreview: Packers look to slow Vikings’ revitalized run gameTop Tweets: Yelich thanks fans for support after season-ending injuryAmos sparks rebuilt Packers defense in debutPackers to be tested again by familiar foe in Zimmer, VikingsThe Packers (6-8-1) were eliminated from playoff contention two weeks ago. He’s also 134 yards shy of breaking the single-season mark set by Jordy Nelson (1,519) in 2014.“Yeah Womens Dean Lowry Jersey , that would be sweet. Starting safety Kentrell Brice was limited with an ankle injury. … Rookie reserve offensive lineman Alex Light was activated from exempt status after being suspended by the league last week for the Jets game for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Minnesota Vikings Jerseys 2019 , at least it is morning. First off, congrats to the Kansas City Chiefs for pulling out the game. For fans that aren’t as dedicated to following this team intently as some, this was entertaining with all the lead changes, for the more die hard fan, this game was pull your hair out ugly! Your Minnesota Vikings did not do enough consistently to win on a day where Kirk Cousins threw for only 50%, Stefon Diggs only caught 1 pass, Dalvin Cook’s longest run was only 12 yards, the offensive line, at least parts of it, got manhandled, the defense gave up drives, Trae Waynes was picked on, Dan Bailey misses an extra point wide left, and Britton Colquitt shanks a 27 yard punt at the end because Mike Zimmer didn’t want to kick to Tyreek Hill. Was there just one thing you could really blame for the loss, or was this an all around total system failure that the Vikings still could have won for most of the game? How does it look going into the future and the Vikings chances to win the division, or at least make the playoffs? Did anyone ever think that Laquon Treadwell would have the most receiving yards today? With Adam Thielen re-aggravating his hamstring injury, Treadwell was on the field often as the third wide receiver behind Diggs and Bisi Johnson. The play calling featuring him versus Irv Smith Jr more, still makes you scratch your head. Treadwell had 3 catches Trae Waynes Jersey , Smith 4, and Johnson and Diggs only 1 a piece?! What’s going on here? Cousins did throw 3 TD passes today and had no turnovers, but most throws were short check downs as illustrated by C.J. Ham getting two. Has anyone picked up on that if Cousins hits his first deep pass of the game, we get good Kirk, and if he misses, like today, we get bad Kirk who reverts to his check downs and as reported leaves receivers wide open elsewhere?Matt Moore made plays against the Zimmer defense today. The bend but not break D looked broken at times. The pass rush got better and better, but with safeties having to play cover over Waynes and Xavier Rhodes, shutting down a good team like in 2017, just doesn’t look to be there anymore. On a day when most things needed to go right, there were just so many that didn’t in all phases of the game that led to the loss. Oh, the life of being a Vikings fan.Trae Waynes was picked on by the Andy Reid led offensive game plan, and the Vikings couldn’t stop it.Photo by Peter Aiken/Getty Images We hope you have a good week and look forward to Dallas next Sunday night. Unfortunately, Drew is behind the power curve and doesn’t have a Twitter handle… yet. EAGAN, Minn. — Two years away from free agency Eric Kendricks Jersey , Adam Thielen was among the best bargains in the NFL.Facing a tight salary cap situation, the Minnesota Vikings could have waited to reward Thielen, their two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver who was tied for fourth in the league with 113 receptions last season.Waiting, and creating potential tension with team cornerstones, hasn’t been their approach. So the Vikings and Thielen agreed to a four-year, $64 million contract extension last week.More Vikings coveragePreview: Cook, Vikings look to keep rolling vs. PackersTop Tweets: Vikings prepare for Packers with TMNT hype videoBarr, seasoned Vikings defense off to strong startNew offense, same Rodgers: Vikings prep for LaFleur’s PackersVikings re-sign center Jones, waive rookie TE Dillon“It shows what type of organization this is,” Thielen said this week as players began their first round of organized offseason workouts. “They’re not here to lowball people. They’re not here to take advantage of people. They want to reward the people that helped this football team win games and, ultimately, they want to win games. That’s probably one of the biggest reasons that I want to be here for a long time, because I want to win games. I guess it just shows what this organization is about and how they treat their players.”Thielen, the famously undrafted player from Division II Minnesota State who had the third-most receptions in franchise history last year, signed for an annual average of $16 million on his new deal that is the sixth highest among NFL wide receivers. He can earn as much as $73 million with incentives over the life of the contract covering the 2021-24 seasons. This was the latest move by Minnesota general manager Rick Spielman to maintain the foundation — mostly drafted-and-developed players — of a roster with a recharged Super Bowl aspiration. Thielen’s extension followed those given to wide receiver Stefon Diggs, defensive end Danielle Hunter and linebacker Eric Kendricks in the past year. The Vikings have thus created an environment, particularly on defense Infant Marcus Epps Jersey , built on remarkable continuity in a league that’s constantly turning over. The front office hasn’t shied away from extensions a year or more before free agency, and the players have shown a willingness to stay and forgo the chance to test an open market.“I feel like we just love playing with each other,” Kendricks said. “We know what kind of group we have. We have each other’s backs. I take a lot of trips with these guys in the offseason, and we just enjoy being together, working together. We know what we’re all chasing. I feel like it says a lot about what we’ve got.”Linebacker Anthony Barr was an outlier among recent high draft picks, in 2014, by the Vikings who hit free agency without an extension. He even agreed to join the New York Jets before reconsidering and staying where his heart was for a little less money.“I sent him a text like, ‘Hey, it’s going to be weird not playing with you,’ and he was like, ‘Just wait a second,'” said Kendricks, who has been a teammate of Barr’s since college at UCLA. “I’m like, ‘Oh, I see.’ Everything kind of played out how it did. Couldn’t be happier.”Barr’s decision even struck the typically stoic Harrison Smith. Speaking to reporters this week, the Pro Bowl safety choked up and acknowledged being surprised by the emotion he felt.“He’s one of my best friends,” said Smith, another high draft pick Marcus Epps Jersey nfl draft , in 2012, who never hit free agency. “Honestly, I wanted him to go get as much money as he could make. Pro sports, it’s how things happen. I obviously wanted him here, as well. So, I wasn’t going to be upset one way or the other. It’s an emotional game, and you make friendships, and you make plays together, and you’re pumped for the guy next to you. It’s why I play.”The feeling is mutual around the team’s facility.Tight end Kyle Rudolph said this week he’d be willing to restructure his contract to help the team’s salary cap situation and thus avoid being released. Defensive end Everson Griffen, the longest-tenured member of the team as a 2010 draft pick, already did that last month. Taking a pay cut was not his preference, of course, but the support he received from the team while taking a leave for mental health issues sure made it easier to stay.“They took care of me and they treated me like family,” Griffen said. “I’ve been here for 10 years. I’ve played good football for them, and I felt like they handled the situation that I was in perfectly. They took me under their wing. They made sure I had everything lined up, and it was a good thing. I just want to repay that. It’s always bigger than football.”

one thing regarding his future with the New York Jets: the team’s next opponent.Despite all the rumors and expectations that the game Sunday at New England will be his last as coach of the franchise LaDainian Tomlinson Jerseys 2019 , Bowles refuses to publicly fuel any of the speculation that has seemed like an inevitable ending for weeks.“I do not talk about my job,” Bowles said during a conference call Monday.Plenty of other people do that for him, of course, with many fans and media already preparing for a coaching search and throwing out potential replacements for Bowles.Pro Football Talk reported Sunday night, citing an anonymous source, that the Jets plan to pursue Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. Bowles said he had no response to the report, but the team issued a statement from acting chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson denying it.“Todd Bowles is our head coach,” Johnson said in the statement. “There is no truth to the report of our interest in Jim Harbaugh.”That, of course, doesn’t mean Bowles will, in fact White Curtis Martin Jerseys , remain the coach moving forward. The Jets also might know the reality is Harbaugh has made it clear he intends to remain with the Wolverines.Harbaugh’s brother John, another name mentioned in speculation and rumors, will also not be on New York’s list after Baltimore announced last week it will sign him to a contract extension.Former Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy has been a much-discussed option on sports radio and social media, and there will be plenty more names to consider over the next several days.Bowles remaining with the Jets, however, does not seem likely. He is about to finish his fourth season — all without a playoff appearance — and has a 24-39 overall record, including a 44-38 overtime loss to the Packers on Sunday.“Personally, I do not speak about my next job,” Bowles said. “I worry about tomorrow and when Christmas comes, and I worry about New England on Sunday and I go from there.”That’s not just lip service from Bowles, who has always been reserved about his private life and his job status since being hired by the Jets in 2015 to replace the fired Rex Ryan. Bowles has insisted on keeping the focus on his players Curtis Martin Jerseys 2019 , and not letting the outside chatter affect anyone inside his locker room.“That’s my only job,” the 55-year-old Bowles told The Associated Press in a recent interview. “Nothing else matters. They’re younger and they haven’t been through anything like this, so it’s up to me to make sure we approach it the right way and learn the things we need to learn, and it gets navigated the right way, and that’s my only job.“There’s nothing else to really lose sleep over.”To a man, the players have said Bowles has not strayed from that approach. They have praised his ability, despite all the swirling speculation, to not let any of it affect his preparation.“I can say that our minds and our focus is on the Patriots coming up this week,” left tackle Kelvin Beachum said. “We can’t worry about things going on outside our building. I think more guys are focused on making sure that they’re spending time with their families for Christmas. We don’t have time to really look at what the media has to say about what’s going on.“At the end of the day, it’s about this organization, about these players in this building.”When asked what Bowles has to say about it White Joe Klecko Jerseys , Beachum said the coach has said nothing regarding his future.“He’s got us focused on the Patriots,” Beachum said. “That’s not something that is on top of mind right now. What’s on top of mind is finding a way to close out games. We’ll handle the rest when the season is over.”NOTES: After blasting officials for calling so many penalties on his team, included 16 accepted for a franchise-record 172 yards, Bowles said he had nothing more to add. “I said what I said, I meant everything I said,” Bowles said. “I’m done with it.” … Bowles said WR Jermaine Kearse injured an Achilles tendon and was going for X-rays. He had four catches for 55 yards before leaving against Green Bay. … WR Quincy Enunwa appears likely to end the season having missed the final three games with an ankle injury. When asked about Enunwa’s chances of playing at New England, Bowles said: “Slim. I haven’t talked to him yet, but I would say slim.” … Beachum and his family were treating people to lunch in his hometown of Mexia, Texas, to celebrate Christmas. Although Beachum can’t join them, he invited residents to stop by a local chicken and catfish eatery for a meal “to show holiday love to my hometown.” Good morning Joe Klecko Jerseys 2019 , GGN! Every one of the players picked by the Super Bowl winners brings specific strengths to the table, and here are ten statistics — compiled for most parts through Pro Football Focus’ draft guide — that help illustrate them.1-32 WR N’Keal Harry: 135.4N’Keal Harry is projected to serve primarily as a physical boundary receiver in New England’s offense, playing a similar role to the one held by Josh Gordon before his suspension last year. Like Gordon, the first-round rookie will likely also challenge opposing defenses deep — and his deep passing numbers from the 2018 season show that he should be up for the challenge: Harry was targeted deep 18 times and came away with 9 catches for 276 yards and 4 touchdowns.Arizona State quarterback Manny Wilkins registered a passer rating of 135.4 when going deep to the new Patriot, the highest among all of the 28 drafted wide receivers. Harry’s 14.9 yards per reception last year also reflect his abilities as a deep threat. When comparing that number to New England’s 2018 receiving group, it can be seen that only Gordon (18.0) and Chris Hogan (15.2) registered more yards per catch.2-45 CB Joejuan Williams: 48.0When New England traded up to draft Joejuan Williams in the second round, the team did so knowing that it would get a uncharacteristically tall cornerback that is versatile and physical enough to find success against tall receiver and tight ends. Williams’ success in this regard at Vanderbilt speaks for itself, with one number in particular standing out: he allowed only 48.0% of targets to be completed — 36 of 75 attempts.3-77 DE Chase Winovich: 11.8With Trey Flowers and Adrian Clayborn both leaving the team during the offseason Damien Harris Jersey Draft , the Patriots needed additional bodies on the defensive edge. They found Chase Winovich in the third round to provide depth as well as playmaking ability against both the pass and the run. Versus the pass, Winovich registered 53 hurries in 2018 — 5.0 sacks, 14 quarterback hits and 34 hurries — but it is work against the ground game that really jumps off the page.Last year, the Michigan product played 288 run-defense snaps and he registered a stop on 34 of them. His run-stop percentage of 11.8% ranks him fourth among all drafted defensive linemen: only first-round picks Quinnen Williams (14.2%), Montez Sweat (12.7%) and Christian Wilkins (11.9%) were more efficient when it comes to stopping the run than the Patriots’ third pick of the 2019 draft.3-87 RB Damien Harris: 3.2Despite the Patriots having one of the deepest running back groups in the NFL, they opted to add to the position with the 87th overall selection. Alabama’s Damien Harris is expected to serve as the 1B back alongside 2018’s first-rounder Sony Michel, and he certainly has the abilities to serve as an early down and goal line runner in New England — one capable of grinding out positive yards through contact, as his 3.2 average yards gained after initial contact in 2018 illustrates.3-101 OT Yodny Cajuste: 3.0Yodny Cajuste is a developmental offensive tackle, that is expected to start his career as a backup swing tackle behind projected starters Isaiah Wynn and Marcus Cannon. While he needs to refine his technique especially in the running game, Cajuste has already been quite effective as a pass blocker: West Virginia’s left tackle surrendered quarterback pressures on just 3.0% of his 394 pass blocking snaps last year. All in all, he surrendered no sacks, and only two hits and ten hurries.4-118 OG Hjalte Froholdt: 1.2As is the case with Cajuste Damien Harris NFL Jersey , pass blocking is also the forte of Hjalte Froholdt. In fact, the Patriots’ first selection of day three was even more successful (albeit while playing a different position): on 418 pass-blocking snaps, the Arkansas lineman surrendered just three hits and two hurries for a pressure rate of only 1.2%. While his run blocking needs some refinement, Froholdt’s fundamentals as a pass blocker certainly make for an intriguing prospect.4-133 QB Jarrett Stidham: 123.2The majority of Jarrett Stidham’s passing numbers do not stand out, and are likely a reason why he was still available in the fourth round. One statistic, however, pops out right away: his deep passing efficiency. The Auburn quarterback completed 18 of 51 attempts deep for 681 yards with 8 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Only one other quarterback that heard his name called — new Denver Broncos passer Drew Lock — registered a higher deep-field passer rating in 2018 than Stidham’s 123.2.5-159 DE Byron Cowart: 2Byron Cowart’s college career — one that started at Auburn before a transfer to Maryland — was nothing to write home about for a player that entered college as a five-star recruit. Few of his numbers do therefore jump off the page, but one stands out: the versatile lineman, who has experience playing both on the interior and the edge, registered two interceptions in 2018. New England, for comparison, did not see a lineman come up with a pick since Eric Lee accomplished the feat in week 13 of the 2017 season.5-163 P Jake Bailey: 61.7%Even though the Patriots re-signed incumbent Ryan Allen in free agency Damien Harris NFL Draft , they brought on some competition (for the second straight year, in fact): Stanford punter Jake Bailey. Allen has the experience, but New England’s fifth-round investment is certainly an intriguing player to watch for his leg strength and his ability to potentially also take pressure off place kicker Stephen Gostkowski as a kickoff specialist.Bailey succeeded in numerous metrics last year, but one is especially impressive: of his 68 punts, 37 landed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. His 61.7% rate on such kicks is noticeably better than Allen’s production in this area last year: New England’s punter saw only 21 of 64 punting attempts (32.8%) set the opponent up inside its own 20. Allen’s directional kicking was always one of his better attributes, so if Bailey is able to challenge him in this part of the game, New England might have someone else back in punting situations this season.7-252 CB Ken Webster: 22.231 cornerbacks were drafted before Ken Webster heard his name called with the antepenultimate selection in the entire draft. Of those 31, only seven rank ahead of the Mississippi defender when it comes to forcing incomplete passes in 2018: Webster was able to get his hands on 6 of the 27 passes thrown his way last year, for a forced incompletion percentage of 22.2%. He furthermore registered a pair of interceptions and surrendered a passer rating of just 58.1 — solid numbers for the seventh-round selection.

EAST RUTHERFORD Will Hernandez Jerseys Stitched , N.J. (AP) — There’s been so much attention showered on halfback Saquon Barkley, it’s easy to forget the New York Giants have been getting contributions from some other rookies. Will Hernandez, the second-round pick, has started all 12 games at left guard and helped Barkley get within 46 yards of a 1,000-yard rushing season. The guy who gets overlooked is defensive lineman B.J. Hill, the third-round pick out of North Carolina State who was the 69th player chosen in the draft.Hill, who started two of the first seven games, has been a mainstay in the lineup since New York traded defensive tackle Damon Harrison to Detroit in October.“When he came in, the thing that stood out the most, is that he’s ahead of his time in terms of his maturity level,” defensive coordinator James Bettcher said Thursday.“In the meeting room Youth Lorenzo Carter Jerseys , on the practice field, the way he works, the conversation, you can rip his butt, you can coach him hard, lift him up, he can handle all that beyond what many rookies I’ve been around have been able to.”Bettcher also is impressed Hill is not hitting the wall late in the season. He is actually playing better.A North Carolina State product, Hill had a career game this past weekend against the Chicago Bears with three tackles and three sacks. He has a team-high five sacks, which ties the team rookie record set by linebacker Andy Headen in 1983 and tied by tackle Cornelius Griffin in 2000.Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor had 9½ sacks as a rookie in 1981, but that was a year before sacks became an official statistic, so it is not officially the record. No Giants rookie has ever finished a season leading the team in sacks.“It feels pretty good Lorenzo Carter Jerseys Stitched ,” Hill said of getting a sack, which he compared to a receiver scoring a touchdown. “I am not going to lie, especially since we won the game. It was an amazing feeling, especially when you have the guys celebrating with you and congratulating you.”Hill is different than most rookies. He is quiet, mature and not very flashy. There was no elaborate sack dance after any of his takedowns of Bears quarterback Chase Daniel. The Giants had 14 sacks in their first 11 games and picked up five Sunday, with linebacker Olivier Vernon getting the other two.“I just think the team is coming together and we’re playing as one now,” Hill said. “You can see the way we are playing, the way we practice, the way we go about ourselves on a day-to-day basis.”The biggest adjustment Hill has had to make is living in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area. There are many more people than in North Carolina and there is no comparing the traffic.Hill played on one of the best defensive lines in college last year. Jones Jones fell out of favor with the coaching staff and now wants to be traded. Photo by Dylan Buell/Getty ImagesJosh Jones’ public trade demand Tuesday offers a fitting metaphor for the Green Bay Packers’ safety position for years. Jones represents Ted Thompson’s failures to remedy a gaping hole that has burned deeply into this roster ever since Nick Collins’ early injury-forced retirement. After signing Adrian Amos and trading up for Darnell Savage, at the very least Brian Gutekunst undertook considerable efforts to remake the safety position. Jones, the last vestige of the capital Thompson invested at the position, now wants out. It’s been made clear the Packers aren’t particularly interested in using Jones either, as evidenced in Mike Pettine’s resolve to try nearly every possible player ahead of him last season. Kentrell Brice and Jermaine Whitehead shouldn’t all be playing ahead of your former second-round pick unless the team views him as a lost cause. Perhaps the team will view Jones as they did the remaining staff of Mike McCarthy after Matt LaFleur got the job: salt the earth so that nothing old grows back. Gutekunst would try to trade Jones and if no suitable partner calls, he’s given his walking papers. Under different circumstances, the move from the Packers would have been to say “tough luck, you’re under contract,” with the understanding the market likely won’t produce a wealth of suitors. But this team already tried every excuse it could find not to put him on the field. They didn’t trust him last year and then spent an offseason rebuilding the position he was supposed to be playing but wasn’t. Josh Jones told me last year he never got an explanation for why he wasn’t playing more, but his focus at the time wasn’t the past. He wanted to help the team win. As Kentrell Brice struggled, Jones languished on special teams, but began making plays. He appeared to be playing the role of good soldier. Yet once Brice went down Jermaine Whitehead’s role elevated, not Jones’ and Pettine never found a role for Jones in this defense. Clearly, part of the responsibility to carve out a home for the player falls on the player. Jones never forced his way into more snaps by playing well. His best game has been his first game, where he was all over the field against the Bengals as a rookie back in 2016. But he lacked the instincts to make plays as a box defender, the read-and-react ability to play in the deep half, and while he’s a useful man coverage player, Pettine prizes versatility among all else. Brice or Whitehead were never truly better options than Jones. There could be more to the story here than just on-field struggles, because it’s not like these other players were any better. Brice, for example, gave up three touchdowns in just 29 targets with a passer rating over 150 when quarterbacks tested him. That’s awful. Jones’ 98.7 passer rating when targeted is nothing to write home about, but it was significantly better than Whitehead’s and Brice’s. A quick aside: Ibraheim Campbell, for his part, played extremely well in limited snaps, showing good feel in coverage and immediately becoming the position group’s most reliable tackler. An injury ended his season, but don’t be surprised if the Packers bring him back in 2019 once he’s physically able. However, he played more of a free safety role opposite Jones rather than taking snaps away from him.One of the strangest parts of this saga was how passive Gutekunst was last offseason when Jones was slated to be a major contributor. No draft capital, no free agent moves, and then a reliance on UDFAs and street free agents. If they really believed Jones was borderline unplayable, how could they have gone into the 2018 season believing they were set with a safety they ended up trading and some undrafted guys? That was true at the time and looks even more bizarre given how aggressively this front office went about adding to the position this offseason. Much like in 2018, when the safety market proved to be extremely soft, Jones would be competing for spots with a host of former preferred starters around the league. Eric Berry, Tre Boston, Mike Mitchell, Glover Quin, Darian Stewart, Mike Adams, Ron Parker, Kurt Coleman and others remain on the market. Why would a team give up draft capital for a safety his own team didn’t want to play in favor of simply signing one of these other, more established players? There’s a simple case that Packers should deal Jones for whatever they can get, like some conditional late Day 3 pick, and sign one of these veterans outright with the understanding that Amos and Savage represent the priority starters at the position. What we need Pettine to answer relates to his preferred style of play. Did he play big nickel last year because Antonio Morrison can’t cover and Oren Burks wasn’t ready, or is that simply how Pettine wants to run this defense? His previous experience suggests the latter. In that case, Green Bay without Jones doesn’t have the bodies to play that way unless Tramon Williams slots in as that roving nickel safety role, something he could be well-suited to do considering how well Savage and Amos can play in the box. Those three as interchangeable pieces offer the kind of malleability Pettine prizes. Part of the answer may lie in the aforementioned Burks. When the Packers drafted Josh Jones Davante Adams Jersey , they stated from Day 1he was going to be a box player, the guy competing to be the dime linebacker. Injuries forced him to play more safety, but go back and watch him against Cincinnati in that game where he really shined and you’ll see a player who made all his best plays from the box. Thompson drafted Jones and in Gutekunst’s first draft, he trades up for a player who ostensibly plays the same position, or at least who could do so. The writing may have been on the wall for Jones at the moment Green Bay turned in the card on Burks. Being able to play Burks next to Martinez would allow Pettine to play more traditional nickel, mitigating some of the size issues that prevented the Packers from being a sound run defense last season, as well as disguising more of their looks. Instead of taking Morrison off the field to put a safety on it — in this case a safety they didn’t really want to play regardless of who it was — the Packers could keep Burks on the field and theoretically get the same kind of versatility. Despite the active offseason from Gutekunst, he didn’t add to a thin linebacker core, or bring in a “box” safety, no matter what anyone tells you about Amos. That could signal faith in Oren Burks. Had it not been for the way the team actively subverted Jones’ role during the season, we may have had reason to believe his presence played a role in that calculation. Much more likely, the Packers added to the back end safety rotation to add players who can play the way Pettine prefers, guys who can cover in the deep half or be factors in the run game from the box. Jones struggled in two-deep safety looks and never quite got the hang of inside linebacker play. As a blitzer shooting gaps and in man coverage, he could be useful, but the Packers clearly wanted more. They signed safeties they like and may have already drafted a replacement for the position Jones was meant to play. A trade may truly be best for both sides, even if it’s unlikely the Packers will get useful compensation for him. That said, Green Bay showed it had little intention of actually finding a way to use Jones on the field so forcing him to say feels unduly punitive to the player. Neither side seems to want to be involved with the other. Moving on signals the end of a forgettable era in Packers safety play while allowing Jones to find a new home elsewhere. Week 1 can be a liar. Conference contenders can look discombobulated, while future also-rans fly out of the gate with alacrity. Defenses who will soon tarnish will shine and offenses who inevitably fade, glow red hot. As Aaron Rodgers and the offense struggled against the Bears, the call for play-action grew. First play against the Vikings: Rodgers finds Davante Adams for 39 off a run fake. If Week 1 wasn’t a harbinger of things to come with the Packers offense, the first play of Week 2 was, at least for the rest of the first half. Green Bay marched down the field, punching the ball in the end zone on a screen to Jamaal Williams. It was the best of what Matt LaFleur’s offense can be. Earlier in the drive, they showed a swing pass to Aaron Jones. Off the same look inside the red zone, Rodgers faked the swing, came back to Williams on the screen who powered into the end zone. It the first of three touchdown drives as the Packers took a 21-0 lead as they held on for the 21-16 win. Against the Bears, who consistently threw two and even three defenders at him, Davante Adams managed four catches for 36 yards. The burgeoning superstar hung 87 on five catches on Xavier Rhodes and Co. in the first half alone, ending the game with 106 yards on seven grabs. Aaron Jones, whose first-down production in particular buoyed the Packers, followed a similar path. After getting bottled up by Chicago for 39 yards on 13 carries in Week 1, Jones creased the Vikings for 14 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown through two quarters, finishing with 116 yards on a career-high 23 totes. Most importantly, Rodgers rebounded, carrying a perfect passer rating well into the first half with 151 yards and two touchdowns through two quarters. And it could have been even more. Geronimo Allison fumbled with the Packers pressing into Vikings territory for a score that could have put the game out reach. Green Bay led 21-7 after a 75-yard Dalvin Cook burst, but maintained control of the game at the time. But they are both that team, one capable of lighting up one of the best defenses in football, and the one who sputtered, flubbed, and whiffed most of the second half. That’s the offense we saw in Week 1 without the creativity, the effectiveness, the crisp execution, and mostly importantly, the points. After starting 10-11 for 137 yards and two touchdowns, Rodgers went 8-19 for 72 yards. After the Vikings cut the lead to 14 Josh Jones Color Rush Jersey , Allison failed to pick up the first-down on an option route on third-and-1. A play later, the Vikings stuffed the Packers on fourth down, already in field goal position, robbing Green Bay of at least three points. Green Bay could have realistically hung 30+ on Mike Zimmer’s defense without its third and fourth cornerbacks due to injury. Speaking of defense, Mike Pettine’s group didn’t suffocate Kirk Cousins the same way it did Mitch Trubisky, but the passing attack never really got on track outside of a 61-yarder to the son of former Packers receiver Don Beebe to set up a field goal. That play, a magician act from Cousins to avoid a sack and dump the ball off, preceded a called touchdown to Stefon Diggs, but a booth review determined Cook blocked a Packers defender (actually, it was two) in the end zone, and overturned the score. Green Bay’s defense held to a field goal and took a 21-10 lead into halftime instead of 21-14. The ferocious, disruptive, playmaking group once again showed up, harassing Kirk Cousins, blanketing receivers, and turning the ball over. Kenny Clark whipped the Vikings offensive line up and down the field, including for a first-half strip sack. Darnell Savage forced a fumble and tripped a pass that Preston Smith caught for a pick en route to forcing Cousins into the fewest first-half completions (four) of his career. Not every week will be as dominant as Week 1, but this side of the ball showed what they did against the Bears was not a mirage. No lying eyes from the start of the season; this Green Bay defense is legitimately good. For the second straight week, they saved a critical score with an interception in the end zone, this one from Kevin King after a rough day for him. On the other side of the coin, the Packers protected the ball extremely well against the playmaking Bears defense. Sloppy turnovers kept Minnesota in the game, allowing them to hang around when Green Bay dominated run of play for most of the day. While the Packers defense made life miserable for Cousins, he did burn them for a 45-yard touchdown to close the lead down to one score at 21-16 in the second half, but penalties struck on Minnesotaa week after they shot themselves in the foot constantly with penalties. The unsportsmanlike conduct call on Diggs for taking off his helmet cost them 15 yards on the extra point try that Tony Brown eventually blocked.Play-to-play, the Packers defense executed the gameplan, but some missed tackles and chunk plays gave Minnesota life. Penalties and off-target throws blunted what could have been an even more productive day for the Vikings offense starting in the middle of the second quarter as they started to find a rhythm Those have to get cleaned up moving forward as guys like Kevin King, Savage, Jaire Alexander and this young secondary makes progress together. Likewise, we shouldn’t be surprised the offense slowed down after a blazing start. This is a group in progress with LaFleur adjusting to Rodgers and vice versa. With the running game working, LaFleur’s philosophy should be hitting fifth gear, but instead, the offense bogged down starting with the Allison fumble. When they go play-action, the offense works in harmony, punctuated by the first down the Packers picked up to help salt the game away on a boot to Davante Adams. The run game got going. Adams found his groove. Rodgers looked more comfortable. And Green Bay’s defense showed out, forcing two picks and three fumbles (recovering two). For now, that’s the recipe to win games as the scheme takes root. More pass-catching need to step forward after another forgettable game from Jimmy Graham and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Trevor Davis never saw the field and Jake Kumerow only found spot duty. They’re still figuring things out, and against a good defense, jumping out to a 21-0 lead points to progress. The offense may be high-variance for a few more weeks, potentially even all season. But with Jones, Adams, and this group of defensive playmakers, they’ve proven through two weeks, they can be whatever they have to be in order to win, even if it’s tough to look at.

Hilton to go up the field with the defenders and Chester Rogers to slide underneath into the flat. It worked brilliantly.Rogers' 1-yard TD reception with 55 seconds left gave the Colts their first lead of the day, a 28-27 victory over the Giants and a shot to end a three-year playoff drought next week. "I just can't say how clutch Andrew was on that last drive," Reich said. "He made a check on that last play. I called a run, he checked to a pass because he saw the pressure."Actually, Luck faced the same alignment earlier in the game and asked his receivers if they could make the audible work with the game — and perhaps Indy's season — potentially on the line. When they said yes, Luck swung the ball out to a wide-open Rogers, who turned up the field and scooted into the end zone untouched for Indy's eighth win in nine games. The Colts (9-6) started 1-5 Indianapolis Colts Hoodie , including 0-2 at home, but won their last six home games and now would make the playoffs for the first time in four years if they beat Tennessee next week. They could even win the AFC South with a win and a loss by Houston.Still, Luck, Reich and everybody else in the Colts' locker room downplayed the playoff talk and instead tried to focus on a remarkable comeback in a game that looked lost.Luck led the Colts to touchdowns on three of their first four second-half possessions, capitalizing on just about every opportunity. He finished 31 of 47 for 357 yards with one interception and two touchdowns, including the audible."When he called the run, I looked at Chester and T.Y. and said, ‘How about running the pass pattern on top?' and they said, ‘Yeah, we'll do it,'" Luck said. "Glad they picked up on it."The Giants (5-10) had themselves to blame for their second straight loss. After leading the entire game and having a chance to make it a two-possession lead after reaching the Colts 7 Khari Willis Jersey , New York settled for a 27-yard field goal that made it 27-21 in the fourth quarter. The unraveling began after Indy pinned the Giants back at the 4. The Giants were called for two offensive penalties and then watched Saquon Barkley lose the ball on a third-down run. Darius Leonard scooped it up and ran into the end zone, but the officials ruled Barkley's forward progress had been stopped, forcing a punt.On the ensuing possession, linebacker Tae Davis was called for pass interference on third-and-3 and six plays later, cornerback B.W. Webb drew the same infraction in the end zone, giving Luck the ball at the 1. Seahawks still in the playoffs Shaquill Griffin Color Rush Jersey , I noted that I have rooted for New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees for quite some time, dating all the way back to his college days as a member of the Purdue Boilermakers. Multiple commenters noted that they’d love to hear the story behind that, and while many likely think it may have to do with actually meeting Brees in person or something of that nature, it is far less interesting. My Brees fanhood is extremely simple, and the story is extremely uninteresting. In any case, as I pointed out Monday, this dates back to the 1998 college bowl season. I am not much of a college football fan, but back in the 1990s I would regularly plant myself in front of the television to enjoy multiple games. I knew who Drew Brees was, simply because at that time ESPN regularly showed Big Ten matchups in the early time slot, and I had watched him lead Joe Tiller’s offense on multiple occasions. However, as many of you already know, I grew up in Big 8 country before the Big 8 swallowed up half of the Southwest Athletic Conference and became the Big 12. Specifically, I grew up the son of an alum of the University of Kansas, and from an early age we would regularly attend football games each fall. The first game I ever attended was on Halloween of 1987 when my beloved Jayhawks put up a great fight, but eventually lost to the number 1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners 71-10. For those who are too young to remember the state of college football in the state of Kansas in the 1980s, it wasn’t always like it was now. While the Kansas State Wildcats have established themselves as a program of note over the last three decades, at that time things were much different. Well, they were different for the Wildcats at least. The week after the Jayhawks let Oklahoma off the hook with a 61 point victory Delano Hill Color Rush Jersey , the Hawks and Wildcats faced off in what was jokingly dubbed the Toilet Bowl, a game that would determine who finished in last place in the Big 8 and who would finish in next to last place in the Big 8. Kansas State entered the game 0-8 with an average margin of defeat of more than 30 points a game. Kansas entered at 1-7, losing by an average of 27 points per game, with their lone victory coming in a 16-15 defeat of Southern Illinois, an FCS (then Div I-AA) opponent brought in to pad the record. The two teams were so bad that the Wichita Eagle-Beacon ran a story in the lead up to the game that the way to solve the football woes at the both the University of Kansas and Kansas State University was to abolish the football programs. Wichita State University had discontinued the football program for budgetary reasons after the 1986 season, and for a very brief period of time this became a very real possibility. The much anticipated matchup between the two programs went about how one would expect such a game to go, and as the game took place before college football adopted overtime for the 1996 season, it ended in a 17-17 tie. That led to the final standings for the 1987 Big 8 season looking like this (screengrab taken from WikiPedia). However, the futures of both football programs would improve over the coming years, with the Jayhawks hiring Glen Mason prior to the 1988 season and the Wildcats bringing Bill Snyder in for 1989. Mason managed a decent turnaround, taking the team to a couple of bowl games in the early 90s, while Snyder pulled off one of the greatest turnarounds in NCAA football history. While the Wildcats never finished in the top five in either the AP or Coaches poll, they were on the brink of playing for a national championship towards the end of the 1998 season. After starting 11-0 behind a suffocating defense and a nearly unstoppable offense led by senior quarterback Michael Bishop and freshman wide receiver Aaron Lockett, K-State went into the Big 12 Championship Game simply needing to knock off the Texas A&M Aggies to likely earn a shot at the national title. For those who don’t know how that game went down, take the six minutes to watch this video, and you’ll understand why Michael Dickson has a lot of work to do to supplant Shane Lechler as my all time favorite punter. That loss by the Wildcats proved costly, as they not only fell out of national championship contention, but also dropped from the BCS picture to playing in the Alamo Bowl Earl Thomas Color Rush Jersey , a huge step down. Living in Kansas at that time, I heard all the complaints from Kansas State fans and supporters that they had been jobbed out of a BCS bowl, and that it was only the timing of their loss that led to the Mildcats missing out on a New Year’s Day bowl game. Personally, I had hoped that the Cats would play in a BCS bowl so that they would get destroyed, but I had to pin my hopes on the Boilermakers and their plucky young sophomore quarterback who played in a gimicky “spread” offense. I won’t bore all of you with the details of how myself and two of my best friends watched that game at Luke Air Force Base on a road trip out to San Diego (where we would stay at MCAS Miramar during our annual road trip out that way) to watch the Holiday Bowl the following day. Here’s the final drive of the game for the Boilermakers. And that is why I have a soft spot in my heart for Drew Brees against any opponent not named the Seattle Seahawks. RENTON, Wash. (AP) — For most of the season, the Seattle Seahawks have had the best running offense in the NFL, trying to win without throwing the ball all over the field. What the Seahawks showed in Sunday’s win over Carolina is that when necessary, they can still rely on the right arm of Russell Wilson.“There’s been so much talk about the run game and we need to get that going and such, but we always designed our approach to be balanced. That means when you have the opportunity to run it, you run it. When you have the opportunity to throw it, you throw it,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “But you have to really commit to the running game to make that happen in the way we’re doing it. So the fact it went this week and Russell threw for 330-something and had a really efficient day, that’s going to happen sometimes.”Wilson’s passing was the difference in Seattle’s 30-27 victory over the Panthers, which may end up being the reason why the Seahawks make the postseason. Seattle (6-5) now plays four of its final five games at home, with its lone road trip down the coast to San Francisco, and essentially controls its own path to a wild-card spot in the NFC.Wilson threw for two touchdowns, including a 35-yard strike to David Moore on fourth-and-3 late in the fourth quarter that pulled Seattle even at 27-all J.R. Sweezy Color Rush Jersey , and set the stage for Seattle to complete its rally with Sebastian Janikowski’s 31-yard field goal on the final play. This was a far different passing game than what Seattle showed in the first two weeks of the season when the run game was mostly ignored. At this point, Seattle’s run game is so respected that there are opportunities for Wilson that simply weren’t there earlier in the season. Couple that with better protection, and Seattle was primed for a game where its quarterback carried the load.“We have star receivers out there on the flank, we have tight ends that can catch, we’ve got running backs that can catch. We have guys that can protect really well. So there is nothing we really can’t do,” Wilson said. “We want to play tough, physical football. We also want to be explosive in the passing game, spread the ball around.”Wilson’s 339-yard passing day was his best game of the season and the only time since Week 1 against Denver he’s thrown for more than 250 yards. He has just three 300-yard passing games since the beginning of the 2017 season. Wilson was 15 of 19 for 218 yards in the second half alone. The focus on running the ball beginning in Week 3 is a big reason why Seattle finds itself in the playoff conversation. But Carolina was determined not to let Seattle control the game on the ground. Seattle’s streak of rushing for at least 150 yards in seven straight games came to an end, and its 2.7 yards per carry was a season low. That may sound like a blueprint has been created for how to stop Seattle’s run game. But not every team has a front seven like Carolina.“They really went after it. They studied well, they did a couple of new things we had to adjust to and they’re just really good. All their players are strong and physical and they did a nice job of committing to it,” Carroll said. “That allowed us to throw the football like we did.”NOTES: Carroll said it was surprising WR Doug Baldwin was able to play despite a pulled groin muscle. Baldwin had five catches and played 90 percent of the offensive snaps. “I can’t imagine he’s not sore. It was extraordinary that he played. He had a groin pull that was legit and he just managed it, made it through the week. I don’t know anybody that’s played with a pull like that,” Carroll said. … Carroll had no update on the timeline of LB K.J. Wright, who missed his second straight game with a knee injury. … The one injury of significance to come out of Sunday’s game was a sternum injury to fullback Tre Madden.

everyone to hear. Except for running back Duke Johnson.“I’m just going to shoot you straight Genard Avery Color Rush Jersey ,” coach Freddie Kitchens told reporters on Tuesday regarding defensive tackle Gerald McCoy‘s decision to sign with the Panthers. “We want people that want to be here. We want people that want to be here for the right reasons. Gerald made the best decision that he felt was best for him and his family. I wish Gerald nothing but the best. If there is any reservation at all, we do not want anybody to be here. We do not want any reservation about trying to convince someone to come here. What we are about to do, it is not for everybody. What we are going to attempt to do is not for everybody. It is going to take a lot of hard work and then we will see where we are at. That is all.”Fine. Fair. Sensible. So if that’s how you feel, Freddie, why aren’t you trading Duke Johnson?“He wants to be traded https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Austin-Corbett-Jersey , you know,” Kitchens said. “I want to win the lottery, all right? So it doesn’t matter. He’s a Cleveland Brown. He’s under contract. He’s going to be used to the best of his ability and what benefits the team. And that’s what we’re going with.”So we want people who want to be here, as long as they make their decision on whether they want to be here before they sign a contract. If they change their mind after that, too bad.So there’s a clear conflicting in the messaging Nick Chubb Jersey , as illustrated by Kitchens’ comments and amplified by quarterback Baker Mayfield‘s “you can get out of the way or you can join us” message from Tuesday. Duke Johnson wants to get out of the way, and the team won’t let him. Browns general manager John Dorsey says interim coach Gregg Williams will be interviewed to be the team’s next coach.Williams took over when Hue Jackson was fired on Oct. 29 after winning three games in two-plus seasons. Dorsey has been pleased with how the team has performed under Williams, their fiery defensive coordinator. The 60-year-old Williams coached Buffalo in 2001-03.Dorsey said Williams deserves the chance to be considered for the full-time job. The Browns have split their two games under Williams, and Dorsey has been impressed with how the team has been focused and disciplined the past two weeks.Dorsey has never headed a coaching search and understands the importance of getting this one right for a franchise that has undergone major upheaval in recent years. He’s been telling himself every day, “don’t mess this up.”Dorsey wouldn’t reveal who in the organization is helping him with the search Chad Thomas Color Rush Jersey , but said the team will not use an outside firm.

Earlier this week https://www.thepackersfanshop.com , we shared word that former Steelers quarterback Landry Jones would be taking part in an XFL “summer showcase” workout that the forthcoming league is using to assess potential players for their eight teams. That showcase is taking place in Arlington, Texas and Jones is far from the only player with NFL experience taking part.Jon Machota of the shared a picture of the proceedings and reports that former Panthers second-round pick Kony Ealy and former Seahawks running back Christine Michael are also on the field. Ealy appeared in three games for the Raiders last season while Michael played one game for the Colts.Machota reports that cornerback Sterling Moore, running back Lance Dunbar, fullback Aaron Ripkowski, quarterback Trevone Boykin, defensive back Marqueston Huff, and defensive end Frank Alexander are also showing XFL scouts what they can do on the field. The XFL has seven more showcases planned this summer. Houston is next up this weekend and all the cities with teams will host one of the workouts. Each of the four teams who lost a free agent to Green Bay will get at least one comp pick next year, some directly and some indirectly a result of their old player landing with the Packers." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesAcme Packing Company homepageHorizontal - WhiteAcme Packing Companya Green Bay Packers communityFollow Acme Packing Company online:Follow Acme Packing Company on TwitterFollow Acme Packing Company on FacebookFollow Acme Packing Company on InstagramLog in or sign upLog InSign UpSite searchSearchSearchAcme Packing Company main menuFanpostsFanshotsSectionsPackersOddsAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 321 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCDTUnder Ted Thompson, the Green Bay Packers were rarely major players in free agency. One contributing factor to that approach was the NFL’s compensatory pick formula, which awards extra draft picks in rounds three through seven of the NFL Draft to teams that lost more unrestricted free agents than they gained. In 2020, the Packers are likely to have no compensatory picks for the second straight year, reflecting new general manager Brian Gutekunst’s more aggressive approach to free agency. However, that approach — which came to a head in March as the team agreed to terms with four players in the span of a few hours — did help a few other NFL teams pick up comp picks of their own.In fact, each of the four teams that the Packers’ additions came from are likely to get at least one comp pick in 2020, according to Over the Cap’s projections. Although just two of the picks correspond to the players who signed with the Packers, Green Bay’s contracts with the other two helped cancel out additions by that old team and ensured that a different lost player would equate to a comp pick. Here’s a look at how those picks will likely break down.Za’Darius Smith: Third-round pick (Ravens)Smith Green Bay Packers Customized Jerseys , the Packers’ highest-priced free agent signing, came from the Baltimore Ravens, who have earned a well-deserved reputation for accruing compensatory picks. With an average annual contract value of $16.5 million, Smith’s deal should get the Ravens one of the coveted third-round comp picks in 2020. Baltimore did sigh one high-priced free agent this year, landing safety Earl Thomas, but they also lost linebacker C.J. Mosley to the Jets, so those transactions are projected to cancel out.The comp pick for Smith is one of three that the Ravens are currently projected to receive, along with a fourth-round pick for wide receiver John Brown (who signed with the Buffalo Bills) and a fifth-rounder for edge rusher Terrell Suggs (Cardinals).Preston SmithThe “other” Smith, who came over from Washington, will not end up getting his old team a comp pick. That is because Washington signed safety Landon Collins to a $14 million per year deal, slightly eclipsing the $13M per year that Smith received from the Packers. Washington is in line for a fourth-rounder, however, as Jamison Crowder’s $9.5M/year contract with the Jets will cash in a pick.Adrian Amos: Fourth-round pick (Bears)With Amos coming to Green Bay from Chicago, the Bears are likely to get what could be their first compensatory pick in over a decade - a fourth-rounder. He is the only player lost or gained by the Bears with a contract value exceeding $7 million annually. Cornerback Bryce Callahan headed to Denver for that number, but appears likely to be canceled out by some of the Bears’ signings.Interestingly, the Packers unloaded safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix for a fourth-round pick in the 2019 draft Green Bay Packers T-Shirts , trading him to Washington midway through last season. Now, the Bears have Clinton-Dix in the fold on a one year deal and should get a fourth-rounder of their own as a result of the Packers picking up Amos.Billy TurnerInterestingly, Callahan landing in Denver is a reason why the Broncos will not get a fifth-round pick for Turner, who signed a $7 million deal of his own in Green Bay. Denver might still land three picks, but because of their additions this offseason, none of them will likely be earlier than round six.Packers’ Comp PicksThe Packers, meanwhile, predictably will get no compensatory picks, as they had just four qualifying players leave, all of whom had contract values lower than Turner’s. In other years, Green Bay might have hauled in three sixth-rounders for Randall Cobb, Clay Matthews, and Jake Ryan, plus a seventh for Bashaud Breeland, but the additions of the four players above will cancel those out and ensure that Brian Gutekunst has no extra ammunition in 2020 as a result of this year’s free agency period.

Murray-USA TODAY SportsThe Cleveland Browns were already going to be a trendy team for the 2019 season. A strong finish to last year’s campaign Kevin Zeitler Jersey , coupled with marketable superstars in quarterback Baker Mayfield and defensive end Myles Garrett, meant the Browns were destined to receive some more national exposure this fall. But it was the trade for wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in March that took things to another level in the eyes of the NFL’s television partners. When the 2019 schedule was released on Wednesday, fans discovered the Browns with four primetime games, along with a pair of non-West Coast games in the high-profile 4:25 p.m. Sunday time slot. Albert Breer at Monday Morning Quarterback took a behind-the-scenes look on Thursday at how the league put together the schedule, highlighting the impact the Beckham trade had on the process. This fall will mark the 50th anniversary of the first Monday Night Football game, which featured the Browns and the New York Jets. With the two teams scheduled to play each other this fall Joel Bitonio Color Rush Jersey , the league decided a Monday night rematch was appropriate. But rather than risk having the game be lost in the shuffle, the NFL wanted to have its new stars have the stage to themselves with a Week 2 matchup, VP of broadcasting Onnie Bose told Breer:The game against the Jets will be one of two Monday night appearances for the Browns this season, the other coming October 7 on the road against the San Francisco 49ers. That is due, in part, to ESPN signaling its intentions early on that the network wanted the Browns https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Terrance-Mitchell-Jersey , as Senior VP of broadcasting Howard Katz told Breer:The Beckham trade also contributed to the league moving the October 27 game against the New England Patriots and the December 1 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers into the late Sunday afternoon slot as part of the national doubleheader. That adds up to six high-profile games for the Browns this season, with the possibility of up to two more games being flexed into the Sunday night slot. In the end, the league was just giving the networks what they wanted, according to Katz:Let the games begin. The problem, just as it was last year, is that there is still an extreme drop off in production whenever the starters are out of the game. Daniel Ekuale is a candidate to fix that problem and the second-year defensive lineman caught the eye of the coaching staff during Organized Team Activities Jarvis Landry Jersey , according to Terry Pluto at cleveland.com:Ekuale was last heard from when he received a four-game suspension last December for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. That could have been a career-killer for a player who joined the team as an undrafted free agent and spent the first 13 weeks of the season on the team’s practice squad. But it sounds as if Ekuale has worked himself back into the coaching staff’s good graces. While it is difficult to draw any conclusions from what players do during practices in short and helmets and without tackling, Ekuale should have a chance to earn a roster spot this summer. Which given the options the Browns currently have as backups along the defensive line may not be that hard to accomplish.

Saturday. Then he said goodbye to the NFL.The Indianapolis Colts quarterback heard boos as he walked away from the field Indianapolis Colts Hoodie , then walked to the podium and made the surprise decision official. The oft-injured star is retiring at age 29.“I’m in pain, I’m still in pain. It’s been four years of this pain, rehab cycle,” Luck said. “It’s a myriad of issues — calf strain, posterior ankle impingement, high ankle sprain. Part of my journey going forward will be figuring out how to feel better.”Luck wasn’t planning to make the announcement following Saturday’s 27-17 loss to the Chicago Bears. But when ESPN first reported the news during the fourth quarter, Luck changed the plan for a Sunday afternoon announcement.Instead https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Le_Raven-Clark-Jersey , he held a 25-minute impromptu news conference. At times he sounded wistful. At others, his voice cracked with emotion. One thing was clear: The endless barrage of injuries stripped away his joy for the game and prompted him to walk away so he could enjoy the life he wants.“There’s no doubt when you hear him talk about the cycle of pain and injury and rehab, you can hear that,” coach Frank Reich said. “There’s a saying in football that everyone knows and everybody lives by, it’s next man up and even though this situation is unique, no one is exempt.”That task now falls to Jacoby Brissett, a fourth-year player whom the Colts acquired in a cutdown weekend trade two years ago.He went 4-11 as a starter in the 2017 season after taking over for opening day starter Scott Tolzien. But the Colts had already been preparing for the possibility Luck might not be ready for the Sept. 8 season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. Luck was diagnosed with a strained left calf in March and team officials kept him out of all of the team’s offseason workouts. He returned to limited action when training camp opened in late July. After three practices Khari Willis Jersey , though, the lingering pain near his ankle forced him back into rehab. He hadn’t practiced with the team since, though he did throw passes in pregame warmups before last week’s preseason game.“I had a thought that it might be my last time throwing at Lucas Oil as a current member of the Colts team,” Luck said. “And I wanted to make sure I could go out and enjoy it.”It wasn’t just the leg.He played with shoulder pain for most of 2015 and 2016, and his 2015 season ended when he suffered a lacerated kidney. He missed all of 2017 following shoulder surgery and then the happy-go-lucky former Stanford star dealt with more pain and more endless months of rehab.“I am going to retire,” Luck said. “This is not an easy decision. It’s the hardest decision of my life. But it is the right decision for me.”Luck’s former coach Chuck Pagano made his first return to Lucas Oil Stadium since he was fired as the Colts’ head coach following the 2017 season. Luck did not play that season because he was recovering from surgery on his throwing shoulder. He returned last season and led the Colts back to the playoffs for the first time in four years, winning the league’s Comeback Player of the Year award.Reich had said he hoped to have an answer about Luck’s availability for the Sept. 8 season opener after the third preseason game. This might not have been the one he wanted — and certainly didn’t expect.“Teams win http://www.coltsfanshop.com/Bobby-Okereke-Jersey , don’t write the end of the story yet. “I’m telling you the story’s not over yet.” The Indianapolis Colts launch into the post-Luck era with his successor on the bench.Coach Frank Reich plans to sit Jacoby Brissett against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night, the Colts’ first game since Andrew Luck announced his retirement. Either Phillip Walker or Chad Kelly will start, competing for the No. 2 job. Kelly has played well in all three preseason games but must serve a two-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Walker has spent the last two seasons on Indianapolis’ practice squad.Reich plans to rest his starters and some key backups. Before the Colts returned to the field Monday, Reich met with general manager Chris Ballard, then the players dressed in a locker room where Luck’s empty stall served as a glaring reminder of how topsy-turvy things had gotten in just a matter of days. By Tuesday, it was finally starting to feel more like a game week.“Emotionally, it felt like a more normal day Parris Campbell Jersey ,” Reich said. “I think now that all the announcements have been made and everything’s been done we’re in the mode of let’s get ready for this season.”One new face is expected to play: rookie receiver Parris Campbell, a third-round draft pick who missed most of training camp and the three preseason games with a hamstring injury. The Colts hope to avoid their first winless preseason since 2014, a season in which they eventually lost to New England in the AFC championship game. The Bengals also plan to rest starters in the final game. It’s unclear whether receiver John Ross, who missed all of camp and returned to practice this week, will play. The Bengals must decide whether to keep star receiver A.J. Green on the active roster while he recovers from ankle surgery. Coach Zac Taylor said there’s no timetable for his return.52<button class="view-gallery">View Gallery</button> Gallery:Greetings from Westfield: Colts training camp 2019AP | Copyright The Associated Press. It wasn’t Foles’ fault, as Alshon Jeffery had the ball go through his hands, but there wasn’t much reason to run another play before the two-minute warning and they hurried anyway. In the other three games, the Kansas City Chiefs took care of the Indianapolis Colts, the New England Patriots wrecked the Los Angeles Chargers, while the Rams ran over the Dallas Cowboys. Not a single top-ten defense by DVOA is in the final four, but your top four scoring offenses are here, and four of the top five offenses by DVOA. night’s game against the New York Jets because of a knee issue.Landry Jarvis Landry Jersey , who has 12 catches for 175 yards in his first two games for Cleveland, has been limited during workouts this week and the team listed him as questionable on Wednesday’s injury report.Landry said he was confident he would play when he spoke to reporters on Tuesday.Linebacker Christian Kirksey is doubtful as he continues to recover from an ankle and shoulder problem. Kirksey sat out Sunday’s loss in New Orleans, and with a short week, it’s possible the Browns (0-1-1) will rest him again.Starting defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah will sit out his second consecutive game with a left ankle injury sustained Week 1 against Pittsburgh, and tight end Seth DeValve with a hamstring injury. Also, starting safety Damarious Randall is questionable with a heel injury.___ NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Drew Brees is in his 13th year playing for the Saints — and it’s been about that long since he’s beaten the Cleveland Browns.Brees’ first game with New Orleans was a victory at Cleveland in 2006. The Browns have won the past two meetings in 2010 and 2014.“Man, they’ve been tough games against these guys,” Brees recalled this week as he prepared for his latest clash with Cleveland on Sunday. While the Saints (0-1) made the playoffs last season, they’ve opened the season with an upset loss at home to Tampa Bay. Cleveland (0-0-1) comes in with a marginally better record after its opener against Pittsburgh finished in a tie.And Brees doesn’t want to hear about how the Browns haven’t won a game since 2016 — not after watching Cleveland’s defense produce six Steelers turnovers last weekend.“You hate the fact they haven’t had a win for a while Genard Avery Color Rush Jersey , because you look at their side of the ball and you’re like, ‘Man, that is a really good defense that did a lot of good things,'” Brees said.“Forget their record. Forget last time they had a win. … Whatever they throw at us, we have to have a plan for, we have to be ready for — do all the things that equate to winning football.”If Cleveland were to end a long winless streak in the Superdome on Sunday, it wouldn’t be the first time. When the current incarnation of the Browns joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1999, they arrived in New Orleans winless through seven games and wound up celebrating their first victory after Tim Couch’s 56-yard heave as time expired found Kevin Johnson in the end zone. The lasting image for Saints fans was deflated then-coach Mike Ditka lying face-down on the turf. For the Saints to avoid falling on their collective faces against Cleveland again, New Orleans’ defense likely will have to improve on the more than 500 yards it allowed to the Bucs in Week 1.For new Browns QB Tyrod Taylor https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Austin-Corbett-Jersey , the opportunity to play the Saints represents a shot at redemption. He struggled against the Saints last year while playing for Buffalo. He passed for only 56 yards without a touchdown and was intercepted before being removed from that game and benched the following week.“Of course, I remember that game,” Taylor said. “It didn’t go as planned. So, definitely looking forward to competing against that group again.”Some other story lines surrounding the Browns-Saints matchup:RENEWING ACQUAINTANCESAdding intrigue to the matchup is the return of Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams to the city where he helped the Saints win a title in 2009. Williams left after 2011 and was suspended months later for his role in the Saints’ bounty scandal, which also resulted in Saints coach Sean Payton’s one-year suspension. The previous time the Saints faced one of Williams’ defenses, Payton’s offense ran up the score in a 49-21 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. But Payton now dismisses any notion of lingering animosity.“My relationship with Gregg is great. He was part of a championship we won,” Payton said. “He has done a great job in Cleveland. … This game is more about the Saints and the Browns and finding a way to win regardless of how many points it takes.”BETTER BREESBrees is now 39 and in his 18th season, but showing little sign of slowing down. He passed for 439 yards and three touchdowns last week. And while the Saints lost, the offense looked good scoring 40 points.Brees “continues to play at a really high level Nick Chubb Jersey ,” Browns coach Hue Jackson said. “Obviously, they have very talented players around him.”Saints running back Alvin Kamara, who had 112 yards receiving last week, said Brees’ ability to read defenses will help against the blitz packages favored by Cleveland coordinator Williams.“They’re a high-risk defense. They want to get pressure on the quarterback,” Kamara said. “When you do that, you’ve got to make sure you make it to the quarterback. So, with some of those looks they’re bringing, we’ve got some good things schemed up.”PRESSUREThe Saints’ second highest-paid player on offense is left tackle Terror Armstead, who expects to have one of his tougher assignments this season against Browns defensive end Myles Garrett. Last week Chad Thomas Color Rush Jersey , Garrett had two sacks.“It’ll be a fun game,” Armstead said of facing Garrett, the top overall draft choice in 2017. “Size, speed, power — he possesses a lot of tools.”QB QUESTIONSWhile wet conditions didn’t help, Taylor’s Browns debut was a sloppy one. He went 15 for 40 passing. If he doesn’t perform better in the dome, it’ll only increase pressure on Jackson to turn to 2018 top draft choice Baker Mayfield.BUCKEYE BATTLESThe game sets up a possible matchup between a pair of former Ohio State players who thrived in Week 1.Cleveland rookie defensive back Denzel Ward had two interceptions and could cover Saints receiver Michael Thomas, who had 16 catches for 180 yards and a touchdown against the Bucs.

Gutekunst has submitted waiver claims on a frequent basis since getting the GM job in an effort to find players who can help his team despite being cast off by other NFL franchises. On Monday, Gutekunst was apparently back at it, illustrating this strategy despite a futile effort. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Packers submitted a claim for tight end Jordan Leggett, whom the New York Jets waived on Monday. Although the Packers did not receive the rights to Leggett — he went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who had a higher waiver priority — this continues to show Gutekunst’s willingness to trust his pro scouts when a player from another team becomes available. In fact, the Packers have successfully claimed two players on waivers in just the past two weeks, snagging kick returner Jawill Davis and safety Mike Tyson. As for the player himself, Leggett was a highly productive player in college for the Clemson Tigers, recording at least 40 receptions, 500 yards Lane Taylor Color Rush Jersey , and seven touchdowns in each of his final two seasons. Both of those came with DeShaun Watson at quarterback, and the Tigers won the National Championship in the players’ final collegiate season. At 6-foot-5 and 258 pounds, Leggett then ran solid agility times at the 2017 Combine and posted a reported 4.71 40-yard dash at Clemson’s Pro Day.The Jets drafted Leggett in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but he did not suit up on gameday as a rookie before going on injured reserve at midseason. He played in 15 games in 2018, however, catching 14 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown. The Packers currently have six tight ends on the 90-man roster: veterans Jimmy Graham and Marcedes Lewis, second-year pro Robert Tonyan, returning first-year player Evan Baylis, 2019 third-round pick Jace Sternberger, and undrafted rookie Davis Koppenhaver. Over the next two weeks, Acme Packing Company will break down each position group on the Green Bay Packers and provide insight into how they performed during the 2018 season. Today, we examine the inside linebackers. The Green Bay Packers never received the opportunity to see their full linebacking corps play in defensive coordinator Mike Pettine’s scheme. Veteran Jake Ryan suffered a torn ACL -- the second such injury since 2013 -- during the first week of training camp. The ruptured ligament ended his season and forced the team into a heavier linebacker rotation throughout the season. With Ryan’s rookie contract expiring, the Packers have to make a decision on whether to bring back the dependable-if-unspectacular linebacker or allow him to depart https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Kevin-King-Jersey , creating opportunities for younger players.Jake RyanNFL experience: Four yearsFree-agent status: UnrestrictedExpiring contract: Four-year, $3.9 million ($456,676 guaranteed)2018 stats: None (injured)Ryan appeared in many games for the Packers over his four-year career, but he never developed into a centerpiece of the defense. Ryan’s run defense made him a useful player in Dom Capers scheme, though opposing offenses exploited his weaknesses in pass coverage when possible. By 2017, Blake Martinez had surpassed Ryan as the team’s featured off-ball linebacker. That likely would have continued under Pettine who took over as defensive coordinator last offseason.Because of Pettine’ creativity, a larger linebacker like Ryan could serve the team well should he re-sign. The Packers rotated linebackers throughout 2018, using the run-focused Antonio Morrison and box safeties in various sub packages to attack the offense. Ryan could also offer valuable depth should something happen to Martinez, who wears the radio helmet on game days.At the same time, the Packers didn’t trade up to select Burks in the third round to let him ride the bench. A preseason shoulder injury and inexperience hampered him throughout 2018, but linebackers often take the leap during their sophomore campaigns. Clearing a path for Burks and Green Bay’s other young defenders might make more football and financial sense than bringing back Ryan.

Why did Geathers return to Indianapolis?Matt Eberflus Changes Culture On Colts Defense, Leads To Immediate Results | 1070 the FanIn new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, the Colts have undergone a culture change on the defensive side of the ball which led to early results.<hr class="p-entry-hr" id="Ret6VU">COLTS MEDIA What a game. As the season has rolled on, this Colts team keeps figuring out more about itself and what it is capable of. This result was exactly the kind of thing that should get Colts fans really excited as we near playoff territory. While earlier season efforts have been one dimensional or relied heavily on Andrew Luck to carry the day Ryan Grant Color Rush Jersey , this was nothing like those games. This was a full team effort that hints at the kind of team that could be truly dangerous to face come January, if they can make it into the playoffs. Let’s take a look at the winners and losers from this shutout game from the Colts. WinnersMarlon MackHe had been a little bit quiet lately, but Marlon Mack really made his mark today. No person in their right frame of mind would have guessed that Mack would outgain Ezekiel Elliott 139 to 87, but that’s exactly what he did. Against the solid defense of the Dallas Cowboys, Mack continued to find running room and run hard through tacklers. His 5.1 yards per carry and 2 touchdowns made Andrew Luck’s job downright easy and let the team grind out the win. There has been a lot of talk about Mack’s potential, and he may not be the game wrecking back that some fans might prefer, but there is no doubt that when the blocking is solid, Mack can take over a game in much the same way as any of the top names out there. Through 10 games Mack has 755 yards on the ground and 7 rushing touchdowns. Imagine if not for his hamstring issue which held him out, we would almost certainly be talking about a 1,000-yard rusher.Denico AutryPhoto by Michael Hickey/Getty ImagesThere might not be a Colts player who has had a better run of games than Denico Autry. His blocked field goal early was a momentum shifting play that seemed to demoralize the Cowboys right away. He added a sack, a QB hit, and a tackle for loss to his stat sheet to even out what has been his 3rd excellent week in a row. Since getting healthy he has been on a tear and has now got 9 sacks to his credit, despite missing several games this season. His great play continues to reinforce what a solid signing he was.Pierre DesirChalk up another solid performance to Desir, who last week thoroughly handled All Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and continued his strong play again today. Desir had 7 tackles, and a really impressive play to hit Elliott behind the line as the Cowboys went for it on 4th and 1 from about the 2-yard line.He managed to force a fumble on the play which Jabaal Sheard recovered. The play was largely unrecognized because it would have been a turnover on downs anyway, but that kind of heads up play deserves some recognition all the same. Desir also had a nice breakup of a pass on 3rd and 2 in which he got beaten momentarily after biting on play action https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Marshall-Faulk-Jersey , but recovers incredibly and breaks up the pass which forces a 4th down. He has been playing about as well as it is fair to ask of him, and it is a testament to the fact that Matt Eberflus is getting the most out of his players.Tyquan LewisPhoto by Michael Hickey/Getty ImagesSince coming back from injured reserve, Tyquan Lewis has slowly been getting better and better. Suddenly we are hitting the back stretch of the season and Lewis has a breakout game. 4 Tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for loss and 2 QB hits is certainly enough to qualify as a pretty good day. Those who have watched him closely over the past few weeks have felt this coming a bit as he has continued to show promise and not quite get there. Today though, he finally got home not once, but twice. The Colts have gotten solid production out of this rookie class in a way that I just don’t know if we have ever seen. It has been a thing of beauty.Darius LeonardPhoto by Joe Robbins/Getty ImagesSpeaking of outstanding rookies, Leonard made a pretty strong case that he deserves to be the Defensive Rookie of the Year in today’s game. His 11 tackles, 1 for a loss and 2 passes defended almost look humdrum next to some of the performances he has put together. However, sharing the field with another potential DROY winner in Leighton Vander Esch really highlighted just how well developed and impactful that Leonard is and why he should be the clear frontrunner. A push that gets the Colts into the playoffs with a couple more highlight reel moments will likely be enough to seal it for him, but even if it isn’t, this is a guy with a ridiculous future ahead of him as a Colt.Ryan KellyPhoto by Bobby Ellis/Getty ImagesFor any of us who were trying to convince ourselves that Evan Boehm was a reasonable facsimile of Ryan Kelly, this game was pretty clear evidence that we were deluding ourselves. Ryan Kelly is a beast, and it was clear almost right away how important he is to this offensive line. The Colts yet again did not yield a sack, and didn’t see Luck under any really heavy pressure all game. Most notably though, was the performance of the line in the running game. Marlon Mack is a Ferrari. He can really fly when you give him some open road. Fortunately, the line was giving him open freeways to accelerate in Eric Ebron Jersey , and Ryan Kelly was a big reason why. Having him healthy down the stretch will be crucial and if the run game can consistently look like it did today, this is a tough team to deal with, because the play action starts to be a very real threat. Don’t sleep on the impact getting Kelly back has for this roster, because today showed it was a huge one.Matt EberflusThis defense entered today’s game against a hot Cowboys team more than ready to handle anything they through at them. They have continued to show more and more as the weeks have gone on, and while Eberflus early in the season was reluctant to blitz, he has shown the ability to adapt and change as the season progressed and the need arose. Additionally, he has gotten the secondary of the Colts playing as well as they have all season, and found ways to get his playmakers involved to shut down opposing offenses. While I don’t want to give him too much credit, lest he end up with a head coaching gig elsewhere, it is hard to argue against what a great job he has done with a very young group.Honorable Mentions: T.Y. Hilton. The guy is a game time decision and still manages to ball out. You can’t question his toughness or his heart.Quincy Wilson. Wilson has turned both his season and likely his career around. He showed a ton of effort in this game and has looked good for several weeks now.LosersOfficialsThe only thing consistent about the officiating is that it is consistently bad. What is a hit on a defenseless receiver? Who knows. What is a hold? Depends on the play. What’s the difference between a piggy back ride and pass interference? No idea. Basically, this season as a whole has been a total mess from the officiating crews of the NFL. This game was no different, with officials inserting themselves in the action calling picky fouls at times, and missing obvious ones at others. I wouldn’t really say that as a total game, these fouls were slanted to one team or another. They were however, largely poor and detracted from the quality of the game. The officiating of the NFL is something they need to look long and hard at in the offseason to determine how they can seriously improve going forward, because right now it is a joke.

On Thursday morning word came down that the Seattle Seahawks had brought suit in federal court in Michigan in an attempt to recover a portion of the signing bonus Malik McDowell received when..." The OffseasonCap ClassroomSeahawks sue Malik McDowell for a portion of his signing bonusNew,120commentsPDTOn Thursday morning word came down that the Seattle Seahawks had brought suit in federal court in Michigan in an attempt to recover a portion of the signing bonus Malik McDowell received when signing his contract with the Hawks. McDowell, of course, never played a snap for the team after being selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and was released from the roster earlier this spring. According to reports, the Seahawks took McDowell to arbitration earlier this year, and the arbitration resulted in McDowell being ordered to repay $1,599,238. Of that amount, the team reportedly withheld $800,000 in payments that were due in 2018, resulting in the amount of $799,238 for which the team is seeking recovery in the case brought in Michigan. The amount which the arbitrator ordered McDowell to repay, $1,599,238, is half of his signing bonus. Specifically, it’s the portions of the signing bonus which were pro rated on the 2018 and 2019 portions of the salary cap. Based on the recovery of the $800,000 during the 2018 season, the Seahawks should have received that portion in credit on the 2019 salary cap. Any of the remaining $799,238 which the team recovers, would go onto the cap for the season which takes place after the June 1 which occurs after the repayment. If that wording is a little confusing, it simply means that if McDowell somehow repays the money today or tomorrow, then the Seahawks would get that credit back on the 2019 cap. If he were to repay it anytime between Saturday (June 1 http://www.theseahawksfanshop.com/Marquise-Blair-Jersey , 2019) and May 31, 2020, then the Seahawks would get the credit back on the 2020 salary cap. Further, the team has no ability to recover the $1,599,238 which was to be pro rated over the 2019 and 2020 seasons. In order for the team to have had a claim for the signing bonuses attributable to those seasons, the team would have been required to keep McDowell on the roster through the first day of training camp of the respective seasons. By releasing him earlier this spring, they forfeited that claim, and thus there is absolutely nothing the team can do to recoup those portions of the signing bonus going forward. In any case, the suit in Michigan simply allows the Seahawks to obtain a judgment against McDowell, which they can then use to garnish any future earnings he may have. Those earnings could be from book or movie rights, or even potentially from a contract with another NFL team, should McDowell ever be cleared medically by the team doctors of another franchise. Now, whether or not that actually happens, we won’t know, but it certainly remains a possibility, and one which, with a judgment in hand, would be beneficial to the Seahawks. So, at this point, here’s to wishing the best of luck to McDowell in continuing his career with another team, in order to benefit the Seahawks and the salary cap of the team in future seasons.
